China-based Tecno has launched a budget smartphone which will go by the name of Camon i. The phone comes with some attractive features at a not so exorbitant price tag. For a price of Rs. 8,999, the Tecno Camon i will compete against the likes of the Xiaomi Y1 and Redmi 4. Let’s have a closer look at what the phone has to offer.
Design and Display
The Tecno Camon i features a solid metallic build giving it a sturdy and premium feel. On the back is where the fingerprint sensor is located alongside its primary camera and some branding. Up front, the phone is fitted with a large 5.65-inch HD+ touchscreen display having a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. To add to that, the phone has managed to eliminate bezels on either side of the screen and maintain an 18:9 aspect ratio.
Performance and Storage
As far as performance specifications go, the phone is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor ticking at 1.3GHz. This is complemented with the Mali-T720 GPU and 3GB of RAM. This ensures that the phone is a total champ when it comes to everyday multitasking. Gaming, however, may not be that great, considering its low-powered processor. Speaking of storage, the smartphone will ship with 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB through a microSD card slot.
Camera and Software
In the optics department, the phone doesn’t come with the fancy dual camera setup but rather features a more simple 13-megapixel rear-facing camera having a f/2.0 aperture. This is coupled with a quad LED flash for capturing good images in low-light. On the front, the phone is fitted with another 13-megapixel wide angle sensor also having a f/2.0 aperture. On the software front, the Tecno Camon i comes with the brand’s custom HiOS operating system which is built on top of Android 7.0 Nougat.
Battery and Connectivity
As for connectivity, the phone checks all the right boxes and offers support for all connectivity solutions up to 4G with VoLTE. It also offers support for WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. On the bottom, it is fitted with a microUSB port for charging and data transferring purposes. The phone draws power from a decently sized 3050mAh battery that is located underneath its hood.
The Camon i has been launched in three colour variants viz. Champagne Gold, Midnight Black and City Blue. It will be available across most offline retailers. What are your thoughts on this phone?
