The Jeep Recon EV is the company’s first foray into electric cars

  • The global EV market is picking up pace, Jeep has been surprisingly slow to adapt
  • The company’s first three EVs will launch by 2024-25, while another unnamed EV will arrive later
  • Jeep did not reveal detailed hardware specifications of the new automobiles

While almost all automakers have launched an electric vehicle, Stellantis-owned Jeep has been somewhat behind in the race. Although the company has unveiled a couple of hybrids in the form of the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, in addition to several concepts, no Jeep EV has hit the market yet. That could change soon with the unveiling of the Jeep Recon EV, which takes design inspiration from the Wrangler.

The company also took the wraps off two more upcoming EVs Jeep Avenger and the Wagoneer S. As noted by Paste Magazine, there’s another unnamed EV in the works, though it will only arrive over the next few years. Meanwhile, the aforementioned Jeep Avenger appears to be limited to Europe for the time being.

It seems like Jeep somewhat rushed its announcement, as it couldn’t offer information on the range, motors and configurations available from the Recon EV and the other new arrivals. The bad news is that the first of these EVs will only reach shelves by late 2024 and early 2025.

While the announcement of four new Jeep EVs is certainly good news, one wonders if the company has waited too long to throw its hat in the ring, given the extensive EV options available from brands like Tesla, Lucid, and Rivian, to name a few, not to mention historic brands like GM, Ford, etc.

Indian launch of the Jeep Recon EV could be far away

If you’re wondering whether the Jeep Recon EV will make its way to India anytime soon, we have some bad news. Since the EV will only be available across the U.S. and Europe by 2024-25, it’s unlikely to reach Indian shores in the next few years. While the company hasn’t shared the full hardware specifications of the new EV, Jeep will probably share more info as we inch closer to the release date of the new EVs.
