Since last few months, new phones are emerging in the market with more RAM, effectively improving the performance on a smartphone to a great extent. Packing in more RAM leads to more number of apps running simultaneously, without compromising the overall multitasking performance. This is mainly why mid-ranged phones with 3GB of RAM are turning out to be more value for money than ever before. In this article, I have listed top 5 best 3GB RAM phones under Rs 15,000.


1) Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime

To begin with, Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime flaunts a metal unibody design and curved edges. The device is 0.9 mm sleek and weighs around 145 grams. It comes in gold, silver, and gray colours options for the price of 9,999. It features a 5-inch LCD IPS screen with 1280 x 720 pixels HD resolution and the pixel density of 294 pixels per inch PPI. Hence, if you’re more into watching movies or reading e-books, this can be a good option.


In addition to this, Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime also comes with a ‘Reading mode’ which reduces blue light rays from the screen, offering most ideal colour temperature for reading. You can also choose from various screen temperatures like warm, standard or cool, according to your viewing preferences.

Under the hood, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4GHz and Adreno 505 for graphics. It’s the same chipset + GPU combo powering LYF Water 4, which I have reviewed already. Even though I haven’t put Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime to test, the phone should have no problem playing games like Asphalt 8 or multitasking. Thank to 3GB RAM running inside.



In terms of the memory, Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime features 32GB onboard storage, out of which around 26GB is available for users. If this much storage isn’t enough for you, it should be noted that it’s expandable further up to 128GB by means of a microSD card support.

Moving to the camera, Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime houses a 13MP primary rear snapper combined with LED flash and Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF). The camera interface offers features like geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, and panorama. It also carries a 5MP selfie camera up front.


Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime also carries a fingerprint scanner, which sits on the back. It can unlock your phone without entering passcodes solving pattern locks. The fingerprint scanner enables additional features such as hidden folders, hidden notes, and app lock.

Motorola Moto G4 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch (13.97cm) LCD screen featuring 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution. The display comes along with the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass and the pixel density of 401 PPI. It’s a mid-budget phone which comes at the cost of Rs 13,000. Motorola Moto G4 Plus also features a fingerprint reader embedded in a home button.

What powers Moto G4 Plus is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor paired. It’s one of the efficient Snapdragon processors which is also present on Asus Zenfone 3 Max. Check our review of Asus Zenfone 3 Max. Assisting the chipset is 3GB RAM for seamless multitasking and Adreno 405 GPU for graphics processing.



As far as the photography is concerned, Moto G4 Plus houses a whopping 16MP primary camera on the back with laser autofocus, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), and dual-tone LED flash. The camera comes with the standard set of models and features like Auto-HDR, Pro Mode, Slow-Mo, Geo-tagging, Touch Focus, Face Detection, Panorama, etc. It also supports up to 1080p Full HD video recording. It also has a 5MP secondary camera up front for all the selfie lovers.

Basically, Motorola Moto G4 Plus comes in two variants — 16GB and 32GB onboard storage. However, 16GB variant packs in a 2GB RAM as opposed to 32GB storage variant embracing 3GB RAM. Hence, you should go for latter if 3GB RAM is what you’re looking for. Users get around 25GB storage available to store apps and data. Nonetheless, the phone supports further memory expansion up to 128GB via microSD card.


Motorola Moto G4 Plus is a dual-SIM phone with no Hybrid slot. Meaning, the phone supports two Micro SIM slots alongside a dedicated microSD card. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out-of-the-box. The software, however, is now upgradable to the most recent Android 7.0 Nougat.

Next in our list is Micromax’s affordable Canvas Mega 4G (Q417) which offers 3GB RAM for Rs 6,999. In terms of the build material, Micromax Canvas 4G is made up of plastic and the back is removable. Moving on, it flaunts 5.5-inch IPS display having the HD screen resolution 1280 x 720 pixels and 236 PPI pixel density.



Powering Micromax Canvas Mega 4G, under the hood, is a quad-core MediaTek MT6735 processor clocked at 1.3GHz and Mali-T720 by reason of graphics. The multitasking is expected to be handled seamlessly, owing to its 3GB RAM. The phone comes with an internal memory of 16GB (around 11GB available for users), which can expand up to 32GB using memory card if you want to store more data.

Coming to optics, Micromax Canvas Mega 4G features a 13MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash. It’s also capable of recording Full HD (1080p) videos. There’s also a 5MP secondary camera for selfies.


Micromax Canvas Mega 4G is based on older Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. Similar to other phones we have seen so far, this too is a dual-SIM handset supporting one Mini SIM and one Micro SIM. There’s no hybrid SIM slot. Meaning, you’ll get a dedicated memory card slot for storage expansion up to 32GB.

Micromax Canvas 4G packs in a 2500mAh Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery which is removable. The device comes with the standard set of connectivity options likes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a microUSB. It’s also compatible InfraRed (IR), so you can use it as a remote control for your television and air conditioner.

Redmi Note 3 is Xiaomi’s most successful handsets in the Indian market so far. In fact, the company has also confirmed that its successor, Redmi Note 4, will also land in India very soon. The device is constructed in a metal unibody design, leaving no access to phone’s internals. The phone comes with a 5.5-inch LCD display with 1920 x 1080 pixels Full HD resolution.

It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 hexacore processor clocked at 1.8GHz and paired with Adreno 510 GPU for graphics acceleration. It comes in two memory variants — 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. The internal memory can be expanded further up to 32GB with the help of a microSD card support.



Talking about the photography experience on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, it features a 16MP autofocus camera with dual-tone LED flash and phase detection autofocus. The camera can also record videos at 1080p Full HD video resolution. The camera supports different modes and features like Geo-tagging, Face/Smile Detection, HDR, Touch Focus, and Panorama. For selfies, the phone also houses a 5MP secondary camera up front.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 also features a fingerprint scanner on the rear side which sits right below the camera module. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS (upgradable to Android 6.0 Marshmallow) with company’s MIUI 7 on top. This is a Dual-SIM handset featuring a hybrid SIM slot. Meaning, you can use either one Micro SIM and one Nano SIM card or one microSD card.


Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 packs in a bigger 4050mAh battery with Quick Charge support. It comes in three colour options — silver, gray, and gold and costs Rs 11,999.

5) LYF F1S

LYF F1S is one of the latest LYF phones launched in India at the price of Rs 10,999. In fact, this is one of the few LYF phones that is priced at above Rs 10,000. However, buyers also get Rs 500 as cash back, effectively making it cost as low as Rs 9,599. To get started with, LYF F1S sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display with 2.5D curved screen and Corning Concore 3 protection on top.

The phone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor combined with 3GB of RAM. It is also found on phones such as LeEco Le 2, which is priced a bit higher at Rs 12,000. In terms of camera, LYF F1S offers a 16MP rear snapper with LED flash. The camera supports 4K video recording which is mind boggling considering what it is priced at. It also features a 5MP secondary camera on the front for all the selfie lovers out there.



LYF F1S is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with near-stock Android UI we have seen on all the LYF phones we have reviewed so far. It is a dual-SIM handset having a hybrid SIM slot. Meaning, it supports either two Nano SIM cards or one Nano and one microSD (memory) card.

Besides the standard voice calling support over high-speed 4G LTE connectivity, the phone packs in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing. The phone is currently available to purchase exclusively from in Black, Silver, and Gold colour options.
