5 must have accessories for your TV

On: August 27, 2018

Unlike smartphones, TVs don’t warrant frequent upgrade cycles, and most televisions are used for years before being considered outdated. Even so, as long as your TV has a 1080p panel and a few USB and HDMI ports, you can easily amp up the experience by adding a few nifty accessories. These are our top five picks.

Amazon Fire TV stick (Rs 3,999)

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is a no-brainer for any TV, adding instant smarts to your dumb television. Just plug it into the HDMI port, connect to your home Wi-Fi and you have access to pretty much all the major streaming services – Netflix, Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, Voot, Hooq, etc., to name a few. You can also stream music from Gaana, and browse the web using Firefox and Silk browsers. The interface makes it easy to discover content, and the Bluetooth remote also comes with voice search capabilities, although Alexa isn’t supported in India as of now. The Fire TV Stick also adds Bluetooth to your TV, so you can hook up a pair of wireless headphones if you want.

Sennheiser RS 120 II (Rs 6,590)

If your TV doesn’t feature Bluetooth but you still want to use wireless headphones, consider the Sennheiser RS 120 II. The headphones come with a transmitter base, which plugs into your TVs analog input. The transmitter streams audio over RF (radio frequency) rather than Bluetooth, and also functions as a docking and charging station for the headphones. The headphones themselves feature a lightweight over-ear design and volume and power controls.

Xbox One X (Rs 40,490)

If you enjoy gaming, you might want to splurge on the Xbox One X. Launched in January this year, the gaming console is Microsoft’s answer to the Sony PS4 Pro. It features 4K support, HDR and a 1TB hard drive. It’s also backwards compatible, which means you can play games from the Xbox 360. The Xbox One X also features a 4K Blu-ray player, and lets you stream video from services like Netflix and Amazon.

Sony UBP-X700 (Rs 27,990)

If you enjoy collecting movies, check out Sony’s latest Blu-ray player. It supports 4K and HDR 10 visuals, and even upscales 1080p content to 4K. The player is universal, meaning it can also play your CDs and DVDs. It supports a wide range of audio and video formats, so you can play content via USB or your home network. The menu features a simple interface with access to a range of apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube, allowing you to directly stream content.

Polk Audio Magnifi Mini (Rs 27,484)

One of the easiest ways to upgrade your TV is by adding a soundbar, and the Polk Audio Magnifi Mini is a excellent option. The compact sound bar offers a six-driver array, a wireless subwoofer and surround sound with Dolby Digital 5.1. The device automatically increases vocal clarity, and features one-button EQ presets for movies, music and sports. The soundbar also supports wireless streaming from your phone or tablet via Wi-Fi, Google Cast and Bluetooth.
