- Elon Musk is considering increasing the character limit for Tweets
- The Tesla CEO replied to a Twitter user by stating, ‘way overdue for long-form tweets’
Now that Elon Musk has formally taken over Twitter, it is expected that the microblogging site will undergo multiple changes. Soon after taking charge, Musk fired all key Twitter executives, including CEO Parag Agrawal, legal policy chief Vijaya Gadde, and CFO Nel Segal. It has now to light that the tech billionaire is considering changes in the character limit.
Currently, the microblogging platform supports 280 character limit for a single tweet. Musk is considering increasing this limit. When a Twitter user asked about expanding the character limit for tweets, Musk confirmed it.

A Twitter user asks Elon Musk, “Can we get rid of, or at least considerably expand, character limits? Wechat has one of the finest features of Twitter. Wouldn’t that be better for public conversation than a short fuse?” In response, Musk stated, “Absolutely”
More than 280-characters
Musk’s response strongly indicates that the tweet character limit is the next big change. It is almost certain that the 280-character limit will be eliminated. However, it remains to be seen whether he intends to increase the cap for Tweets or remove it entirely.
Twitter expanded its character limit from 140 to 280 in November 2017. Many users were continuously demanding an increased character count. Albeit, Twitter preferred calling itself a place for shorter thoughts.
