Upcoming Google Pixel 3 and Mid-Range Pixel Smartphone: All you need to know

On: April 7, 2018

The Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL were one of the most talked about smartphones of 2017 and their successor devices are a couple of months away which will be dubbed as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. That being said, the name of these devices, as mentioned was confirmed by a code commit on the company’s Android Open Source Project (AOSP) website. So there isn’t much left to the imagination, as far as the names go. It’s also a bit too early to speculate about the specifications of these devices, but since they are flagship phones, they will be packed with the latest chipset. Apart from that, there hasn’t been any revelation so far, likely because it’s too early in the development phase.

With that set aside, the Mountain View-based search Giant is likely to launch a mid-budget smartphone very soon. This smartphone will be priced much lower than the flagship devices and will compete with the likes of Xiaomi phones in India. Google launched the Android Go project late last year at the Google For India event. The mid-range Pixel is most definitely going to take leverage of this lightweight software to make its smartphone have a seamless user experience.

The mid-range Pixel is likely to make its way to the Indian market towards the end of July or August. As per a reliable source, the phone currently is bears the codename Desire. With this codename, we can’t resist from drawing analogies to the HTC Desire series. Could HTC be behind manufacturing this phone, after all?

As far as internals are concerned, the upcoming budget offering will feature either the 600 or 700 series Qualcomm processor unlike the 800 series processor found on the flagship siblings.

It will come with either 1GB or 2GB of RAM for smooth multi-tasking. Since the device will be aimed primarily for markets like India, a dual-SIM slot with a dedicated microSD card is also expected.
