Vivo has officially announced the APEX 2019 concept smartphone through a launch event in Beijing, China. The intriguing APEX 2019 features a complete glass design without any physical buttons or ports. Incidentally, just yesterday, Meizu launched the Zero, a phone which also lacks ports and buttons. However, the Vivo APEX 2019 has a few other unique features to offer, including 5G support and an all-screen fingerprint scanner.
Design and Display
The entire body of the Vivo APEX 2019 concept phone is made from highly durable glass with CNC polishing. It does not feature any middle frame that can be usually found in smartphones. There are there dual-sensing hidden buttons on the right edge of the phone that can be used for power and volume.
The Vivo APEX 2019 features a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen that is surrounded with super-slim bezels. It comes with soundcast technology which allows the phone to emit sound through the display. The Full-Display Fingerprint Scanning technology present under the screen makes it possible to unlock the phone by touching anywhere on the display. Users will be able to use single-finger or two-finger authentication to unlock the device.
The Snapdragon 855 chipset with X50 LTE modem which enables 5G connectivity is present under the hood of the Vivo APEX 2019. The SD855 chip is supported by 12GB of RAM. For easier heat dissipation, Vivo has incorporated a liquid-cooled soaking plate inside the APEX 2019.
The Vivo APEX 2019 features a magnetic interface on its lower back called MagPort, which is a magnetic power connector. It can be used for charging and data transfer. In order to incorporate 5G modules on the device, Vivo made use of Duplex PCB Design to reduce the internal space by 20 percent.
Camera and Variants
The Vivo APEX 2019 has 12-megapixel + 13-megapixel vertical dual camera setup with LED flash on the rear. Vivo has not revealed anything regarding the selfie camera of the APEX 2019. Since the front bezels are too small to accommodate a camera, it remains to be seen whether the smartphone features a pop-up selfie camera or lacks it entirely.
The base model of the APEX 2019 features 256 GB of storage and the highest variant has 512 GB of storage. Mica White, Titanium Silver and Lime are the three color variants of the APEX 2019 concept smartphone.
The Chinese manufacturer will be showcasing the APEX 2019 concept phone the smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 in the coming month where various companies are expected to make 5G-related announcements. Last year, Vivo had introduced the Vivo APEX concept phone at the beginning of the year and later the same phone was commercially launched as the Vivo NEX. Hence, there is a possibility that the APEX 2019 may release as the Vivo NEX 2 later this year.
