Vivo schedules its MWC 2020 event for February 23rd, foldable smartphone expected

On: December 23, 2019

With the year 2019 coming to the end, the tech industry is gearing up for the Mobile World Congress, which will be held in Barcelona from February 24th to February 27th. For the uninitiated, the upcoming event is a hub for top brands to launch flagship products and demo future technologies. In a surprise move, Vivo has sent out media invited for a special event scheduled in the upcoming event. This comes as a surprise because Vivo doesn’t regularly attends MWC events.

Vivo could introduce a foldable smartphone at its MWC 2020 event

The brand has sent out the invite with details of the MWC event, the venue, and the time. However, it has refrained from revealing any details as to what to expect. According to the invite, Vivo will be organising the special event on February 23rd at 9.30 pm IST in the Nautic Center in Barcelona. While the invite doesn’t seem to reveal anything else, there is a large v-shaped pattern in the background that has opened up the scope for speculations. According to some speculations, Vivo might launch a brand-new V-series smartphone at the event. The handset is expected to be the Vivo V19 Pro, the successor of the Vivo V17 Pro (first impressions) that was launched back in September 2019.

However, Vivo has never taken to a platform like MWC to announce a V-series smartphone in the past and this could be a whole new smartphone entirely. According to speculations, the V-shaped pattern on the background resembles a foldable form factor. Given the popularity of foldable smartphones in recent time, it makes sense for the brand to jump on the bandwagon as well. And since Vivo is making an exception and hosting an event at the MWC 2020 for this launch, the foldable smartphone speculation seems to be more plausible.

At this point, nothing is concrete with Vivo being tight-lipped about the upcoming launch. We will know more next year, closer to the launch date.
