Vivo sub-brand iQOO today had confirmed last month that the 5G variant of the iQOO gaming smartphone in August. The brand has now confirmed on Weibo that the iQOO Pro 5G will be launched in China on August 22. In addition to 5G support, the smartphone is expected to differ from the current iQOO smartphone in some other areas as well.
While the original iQOO smartphone runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor, the upcoming iQOO Pro 5G is likely to have the newer Snapdragon 855+ running under its hood. Qualcomm’s latest flagship mobile processor comes with a higher 2.96 GHz clock speed and better graphics performance.
A poster teasing the launch of the smartphone was posted by iQOO on its Weibo page last month, revealing a design very similar to the original iQOO. It also confirmed that thee iQOO Pro 5G will feature a triple-camera setup at the rear. What remains to be seen, however, is if the brand plans to launch only one 5G smartphone at the event on August 22. An alleged upcoming iQOO smartphone called the iQOO Plus 5G had also leaked last month. According to a leaked banner for the device, it features a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, and a 4500mAh battery with 44W fast charging support.
The original iQOO, which was launched in March this year, comes with a 6.41-inch AMOLED display featuring 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution and an under-display fingerprint scanner. It runs on a Snapdragon 855 chipset and is available with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It has a triple-camera setup on the back with a 12MP primary sensor, 13MP ultra-wide snapper, and a 2MP depth sensor. The gaming smartphone also features a 12MP selfie camera, 4000mAh non-removable battery, and a USB Type-C port.
