Vivo S5 with punch-hole display and 48MP quad cameras launched in China

The Vivo S5 is the latest S-series phone from the company to go official in China. The smartphone features a unique diamond-shaped quad camera setup on its back. It is also China’s first OLED display smartphone with a punch-hole design. The punch-hole present at the top-right corner of the display has a circumference of 2.98mm. Vivo claims that the phone offers a screen-to-body ratio of 91.38 percent. Pressing twice on the power button gives usersaccess to the new version of Jovi AI assistant. For smooth overall and gaming performance, the Vivo S5 is equipped with Multi-Turbo system that includes Centre Turbo, AI Turbo, Cooling Turbo, Net Turbo, Game Turbo and ART++ Turbo.

The Vivo S5 is a glass-bodied smartphone with dimensions of 157.9x 73.92 x 8.64mm. Weighing 188g, the Vivo S5 comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio display measuring 6.44-inches. The TUV Rheinland certified display supports full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels, DC dimming and offers a peak brightness of 1200nits. The screen is embedded with an under-display fingerprint reader and also offers face unlock functionality.

The 2.3GHz Snapdragon 712 chipset powers the Vivo S5 with 8GB of RAM. The phone comes with up to 256GB of storage but lacks support for a microSD card. The phone runs Android 9 Pie overlaid with the latest FunTouch OS 9.2.

The diamond-patterned camera module of the Vivo S5 features a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 primary lens. It is assisted by an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 5-megapixel depth sensor and a 2-megapixel macro lens that is placed below the camera housing. For shooting selfies, the Vivo S5 has a 32-megapixel front camera.

There is a 4,100mAh battery inside the Vivo S5. The device carries support for 22.5W FlashCharge fast charging technology. The Vivo S5 comes with the usual connectivity features like dual SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Vivo S5 price and availability

The 128GB and 256GB variants of the Vivo S5 are priced at RMB 2.698 (~Rs 27,600) and RMB 2,998 (~Rs 30,700) respectively. The smartphone comes in two colour variants like Star Black, Phantom Blue and Mint Green. The pre-orders of the phone begins today in China. Its first sale will be held on November 22nd in the home market. There is no word on the international availability of the Vivo S5 as of now.
