Vivo has launched the Vivo S9 5G series in China today. The lineup consists of the standard S9 5G and an S9e 5G 5G variant. The latest offerings arrive as the successor to last year’s Vivo S7.
The Vivo S9 5G series retains the same design as its predecessor. However, the devices come with a few upgraded specifications. Both the Vivo S9 5G and S9e 5G are 5G-compatible smartphones. The latter is a toned-down version of the standard variant. Let’s take a look at the devices below.
Vivo S9 5G specifications and features
Starting with the Vivo S9 5G, the smartphone comes with a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a traditional notch on the top that makes it stand out from the crowd. The smartphone bears an FHD+ screen resolution and supports a 90Hz refresh rate as well as HDR10+.
Design-wise, the Vivo S9 5G flaunts a slightly boxy body and the back panel houses a square-shaped camera module. The device is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner.
On the camera front, the Vivo S9 5G comes with three sensors at the back comprising ofa 64MP main lens, 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP macro unit. On the front, the device features a dual-camera setup of a 44MP main shooter paired with an 8MP ultra-wide lens. The smartphone packs various AI-enabled features.
Under the hood, the Vivo S9 5G is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1100 processor that is based on 6nm architecture and supports dual-mode 5G. The device packs up to 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage. The smartphone is backed by a 4,000mAh battery unit with support for 33W fast charging. Software-wise, the Vivo S9 5G runs OriginOS based on Android 10.
Connectivity options on the Vivo S9 5G include 5G NSA, 4G LTE, USB-C port, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Vivo S9 5Ge specifications and features
Vivo hasn’t revealed much about the S9e 5G. It shares the same display specifications of the standard variant i.e. AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate and an integrated fingerprint scanner. However, the device has a waterdrop notch. The smartphone also has the same design as the standard S9.
The Vivo S9e 5G features a downgraded 32MP front camera while on the back it retains a 64MP triple camera setup. Internally, the S9e 5G is powered by a Dimensity 820 chipset compared to the Dimensity 1100 on the standard variant. The SoC is paired with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage.
Vivo S9 5G and S9e 5G pricing and availability
The Vivo S9 5G starts at RMB 2,999 (~Rs 33,786) for the base 8GB + 128GB variant while the 12GB + 256GB option costs RMB 3,299 (~Rs 37,156). The Vivo S9e 5G retails at RMB 2,399 (~Rs 27,024) for the 8GB + 128GB model while the 8GB + 256GB variant carries a price tag of RMB 2,699 (~Rs 30,403)
The Vivo S9 5G will go on sale from March 12 in China. It is offered in three colour options – Impression pick up light, Midnight Blue and Morning Dew While. The S9e 5G can be availed in Crystal Diamond, Stary Night Aurora, and Obsidian colours. However, its sale date is not known at the moment.
