Vivo V17 Neo with in-display fingerprint scanner and triple rear cameras announced

The Vivo V17 Neo smartphone has gone official in Russia. It is a rebranded version of the Vivo S1 that was launched in Indonesia last month. In China, the same phone is available under the Vivo Y7s moniker. The Vivo V17 Neo that sports an attractive design is fitted with a tall aspect ratio display, a new mid-range chipset, a large-sized battery and impressive camera sensors.

Display and Design

The Vivo V17 Neo that features a gradient back panel measures 159.53 x 75.23 x 8.13mm and weighs 179 grams. It gets a 6.38-inch Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch. The Halo FullView display supports full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. The smartphone offers an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a screen to body ratio of 90 percent. There is Always-On Display feature for viewing notifications and the clock without the screen on. The V17 Neo is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint reader as well.

Chipset, RAM and Storage

The MediaTek Helio P65 chipset fuels the Vivo V17 Neo with 6GB of RAM. It comes in a single storage edition of 128GB. For expanding the storage further, it features a dedicated microSD card slot. The smartphone is backed by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 18W dual-engine fast charging.

Cameras and Software

The rear side of the Vivo V17 Neo has a triple camera setup that features Sony IMX499 16-megapixel main lens with f/1.78 aperture, 120-degree 8-mgeapixel ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture and 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. It is the same camera setup that is found on the Vivo Z1 Pro smartphone that was recently unveiled in India. Placed on the front of the smartphone is a 32-megapixel selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture. The photography features that are available on the Vivo V17 Neo are PDAF, HDR, portrait mode, panorama, AR stickers, AI face beauty, photo filters, backlight for selfie, face beauty for video, live photos, slow-motion video recording and time-lapse.

FunTouch OS 9 based on Android 9 Pie comes preinstalled on the Vivo V17 Neo. For gamers, the smartphone offers an Ultra Game Mode feature for maximising its performance for an enhanced gaming experience. The left spine of the V17 Neo has a hardware button. When pressed once, it gives access to Google Assistant. Pressing it twice will let users to use Vivo’s Jovi AI image recognition feature. The other features that are found on the smartphone include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, micro-USB 2.0 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Vivo V17 Price and Release Date

The Vivo V17 Neo comes in two colour options – Blue Pearl and Black Diamond. The handset costs RUB 19,990 (~Rs 21,620) in Russia.

In related news, Vivo will be launching the S1 in India on August 7th. It is expected to arrive with a starting price of Rs 17,990.
