Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has officially launched the much anticipated V9 in India today. The phone was earlier scheduled to launch on March 27th but it was preponed to today. Vivo just recently launched its flagship – the X21 and this one is a slightly toned down version of the same. Even the V9 comes with an iPhone-X like notch on the top. The phone will be available exclusively on Amazon as well as offline retailers from 2nd April. It is priced at Rs. 22,990.
The Vivo V9 rocks a large 6.3-inch Full HD+ display. It has a bezel-less form factor with a 19:9 aspect ratio. The notch on the top houses the front-facing camera, earpiece and some sensors. In terms of design, the phone bears high resemblance to other newly launched phones like the Vivo X21 and the Oppo R15. The phone is available in three different colours: Pearl Black, Champagne Gold and Sapphire Blue.
Vivo being a camera focussed brand has offered dual-rear cameras and a superior selfie camera. The rear setup is aligned vertically and consists of a 16-megapixel sensor combined with a 5-megapixel one. On the front, Vivo offers a superb 24-megapixel camera capable of clicking good selfies. Tagline for the V9 seems to justify its camera specifications, ‘Perfect Shot, Perfect View’.
The brand has also boasted about the AI capabilities in the camera. There’s AI Face beauty mode for the front camera to make your pictures look better. Vivo has also offered various other features like Natural light, Studio Light and Monochrome, similar to Apple’s ‘Portrait Lighting’ feature. The front camera also enables AI Face Access that lets you unlock the phone through your face. You also get a fingerprint sensor mounted on the back of the device as a backup method to unlock your phone.
In terms of performance, the Vivo V9 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM. The new chipset comes with a clock speed of 2.2GHz and TruSignal Antenna Boost for better cellular connectivity. There’s 64GB of internal storage in the device but it can be expanded externally via a microSD card up to 256GB. Vivo has offered Android 8.1 Oreo to the phone out of the box. However, it will be layered with the brand’s own Funtouch OS 4.0 which might not please stock Android lovers.
The phone draws its power from a 3260mAh battery unit fitted inside. It still has a Micro USB port instead of a Type-C one. You also get a 3.5mm audio jack for listening to music. All the basic connectivity options are available in the phone including 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS among others.
Pre-orders for the Vivo V9 begin today i.e. 23rd March from 3PM, you can book one for yourself from Amazon.
