Vivo had showcased its X20 Plus UD smartphone in CES 2018 a few days back. It became the first smartphone to come with an under-the-display fingerprint scanner. Just recently, there was another report claiming that the smartphone is scheduled to go official on January 25th. But the Chinese handset-maker has made the X20 Plus UD official today. The launch event is all set for January 24th in China, 7:30 PM local time.
The new Vivo smartphone fits a Synaptics Clear ID 9500 fingerprint sensor which goes under the screen. It lies between the OLED panel and the main board of the phone. For now, this technology will only work with smartphones that have an OLED display. This sensor can also be used to authenticate payments and other purposes too. At present, it takes around 0.6-0.7 seconds to unlock the phone. Whereas, phones with normal fingerprint sensors usually take approximately 0.2-0.3 seconds to unlock.
Coming to the specifications of the device, it has a 6.43-inch Super AMOLED display bearing a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels which makes it Full HD+. It will have a bezel-less form factor, which Vivo calls as FullView. Talking of the performance, the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 SoC along with 4GB of RAM. Unfortunately, it won’t come with Android Oreo out of the box and will have Android 7.1.2 Nougat. It has a dual-camera setup and a front selfie camera of 12-megapixel. The phone draws power from its 3800mAh battery unit.
Vivo will reveal the pricing for the phone on 24th January during the launch event. But previous reports have claimed that it will be priced 3,999 Yuan which roughly translates to around 40,000 INR. Once it is available in China, the brand might launch the phone in India soon after. We will keep you informed when the X20 Plus UD launches in India, stay tuned.
