At a press briefing in Bejing today, Samsung revealed some details regarding its Exynos 980 5G processor. At the same event, Vivo partnered with the South Korean tech giant to announce the Vivo X30 smartphone. The Chinese electronics brand said that the Vivo X30 will be the first handset to utilise the Exynos 980 5G chipset. The phone maker also said that the Vivo X30 will be launched by the end of December this year. Notably, the upcoming Vivo offering will be the world’s first handset to flaunt dual-mode 5G connectivity. Apart from Vivo, OPPO is also said to be planning to release a similar handset, but with a Qualcomm chipset.
Talking about the Samsung Exynos 980 chipset first, the company has revealed that the SoC has a 5G modem that supports dual-mode SA and NSA 5G networks. The processor is capable of providing up to 2.55Gbps of download speeds on 5G networks. Notably, with 4G + 5G dual connectivity, the chipset can provide a peak download speed of 3.55Gbps.
Furthermore, the brand has revealed that the Exynos 980 falls in the mid-range chipset category. The SoC has been manufactured utilising the 8nm FinFET fabrication processor. The chipset has two Cortex-A77 cores, six Cortex-A55 cores, and the Mali-G76 MP5 GPU. Notably, the latest Samsung processor supports Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and five cameras including a 108MP camera lens.
As for the Vivo X30, the Chinese smartphone brand hasn’t revealed anything about the specifications of the handset. However, a recent leak indicated that it will come with a 6.5-inch AMOLED display with 90Hz screen refresh rate. The phone is said to offer 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. It is tipped to offer a quad-camera setup at the back – 64MP + 8MP + 13MP + 2MP, and a 32MP selfie camera. Lastly, the leak indicated that the device will feature a 4,500mAh battery with 22.5W or 30W fast charging support.
Apart from the Vivo X30, the brand is also rumoured to introduce the Vivo X30 Pro variant. This one is said to offer a bigger 6.89-inch screen, and offer up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. Just like the Vivo X30, the X30 Pro will also have a quad-camera setup at the back, but its sensors will be different including a 60MP snapper, two 13MP shooters, and a 2MP lens. This one’s 4,500mAh battery is said to support 40W fast charging.
According to the reports, the Vivo X30 could be priced at around Rs 32,500 for the base variant, while the Vivo X30 Pro’s starting price is said to be approximately Rs 34,600. We will have official details in the coming weeks, so watch this space for regular updates.
