Vivo X30 and X30 Pro with Exynos 980 SoC and 5G support launched in China

The Vivo NEX 3 5G that debuted in September was Vivo’s first 5G phone. It was a flagship device that had arrived in China with a starting price of RMB 4,498 (~Rs 45,600). However, now Chinese smartphone OEMs are gearing up to launch more affordable 5G phones to the market. Redmi had recently launched the Snapdragon 765G-powered Redmi K30 5G in China with a starting price of RMB 1,999 (~Rs 20,300). Yesterday, Vivo had held an event in China to announce the Vivo X30 series of mid-range 5G smartphones. Consisting of the Vivo X30 and X30 Pro, the smartphones are powered by Samsung’s Exynos chipsets.

The Vivo X30 Pro features a quad camera setup and up to 60x digital zoom

The glass bodied Vivo X30 Pro is fitted with a Super AMOLED XDR display measuring 6.44-inches. It is a punch-hole display that offers full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio. It offers 800 nits of brightness and a highest local brightness of 1,200 nits. The screen is integrated with a fingerprint sensor. The Vivo X30 features a similar design and also comes with a 6.44-inch display.

The punch-hole on the Vivo X30 and X30 Pro house a 32-megapixel front camera. The back panel of the X30 Pro features a vertical strip that includes three cameras – a 64-megapixel main sensor with f/1.8 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 122-degree field-of-view, and a 32-megapixel portrait lens with f/2.0 aperture. A 13-megapixel periscope lens with 5x optical zoom and up to 60x digital zoom is placed alongside. The photography features available on the X30 Pro include professional mode, super night scene mode and Hyper HDR for shooting better shots against the sun or under bright lights.

On the other hand, the Vivo X30 comes with a triple camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel with f/1.8 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens with a 112-degree field-of-view and a 32-megapixel portrait lens. The Vivo X30 supports 2x optical zoom and 20x digital zoom.

The Vivo X30 and X30 Pro are the world’s first phones to be fueled by the Exynos 980 chipset that Samsung had co-developed with Vivo. The integrated 5G modem on the SoC brings support for dual-mode 5G on the X30 series. The SoC is coupled with 8GB of RAM on both smartphones. These phones come in two storage models – 128GB and 256GB. The X30 series is backed by a 4,350mAh battery that comes with support for 33W Flash Charge technology.

The connectivity features include dual SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm audio jack. The X30 series is preloaded with Android 10, overlaid with FunTouch OS 10.

Vivo X30 and X30 Pro price and availability

The Vivo X30 comes in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variants, which are are priced at RMB 3,299 (~Rs 33,500) and RMB 3,599 (~Rs 36,500) respectively. Its sales will begin on December 28th.  Starting from December 24th, Vivo will commence the sales of the Vivo X30 Pro. Its 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model will be available for RMB 3,999 (~Rs 40,600) and the higher 8GB RAM + 256GB storage is priced at RMB 4,299 (~Rs 43,600). There is no word on the international availability of the Vivo X30 series.
