Vivo, the popular Chinese brand known to make smartphones which bank on their powerful selfie cameras has announced a new device dubbed as the Vivo Z1. This phone has been launched in China and considering how the company is aggressively launching devices in India, the Vivo Z1 might make its way to the country as well. Let’s see what the phone has to offer.
Design and Display
The phone looks similar to most flagship Android devices that are coming along recently, except, the Vivo Z1 isn’t a flagship device from the company. It has a bezel-less display that stretches from edge to edge and has a notch. To be precise, it has a 6.26-inch display having a 19:9 aspect ratio. On the back is where its dual camera setup is situated which is aligned in the iPhone X fashion as well.
Performance and Storage
Underneath its hood, the Vivo Z1 is powered by the Snapdragon 660 processor which is a pretty powerful and efficient processor. The recently launched Nokia 7 Plus also features this chipset. Along with this chipset, the Vivo Z1 also packs in 4GB of RAM which should be sufficient for most multi-tasking needs. It also has an Adreno 512 GPU for aiding in graphics performance.
On the storage front, the phone ships with 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. The phone has a hybrid SIM slot, so if you do wish to increase storage space, you will have to sacrifice the second SIM.
Camera and Software
For the shutterbugs, the Vivo Z1 has a dual-rear facing camera comprising of a 13-megapixel sensor and a secondary 2-megapixel snapper. These camera sensors, in addition to some software tricks combined together, will help capture some really good images. It also has an LED flash to aid in low-light conditions. On the front, the phone has a 12-megapixel selfie snapper that also doubles up to aid in facial recognition to help unlock the device. The phone does have a fingerprint sensor located on the back as well to serve as a fallback option if the facial recognition fails. Out of the box, the phone will run on FunTouch OS which is a Vivo’s custom user interface built on top of Android 8.1 Oreo.
Battery and Connectivity
The latest offering from Vivo draws power from a 3,260 mAh battery located underneath its skin. The battery capacity isn’t the biggest around and could have definitely been better considering the large display it has to power. On the connectivity front, the phone checks all the right requirements and supports 3G, 4G with VoLTE, WiFi and Bluetooth. Dimension wise, the Vivo Z1 measures 154.81mm in length, 75.03mm in width and 7.89mm in thickness. It also weighs just under 150 grams.
The phone has been launched with a price of CNY 1,798 (~ Rs. 19,200) and will be available in Porcelain Glaze Black, Hyun Screen Red, and Sapphire Blue hues. Currently, the phone is up for pre-order through JD.com. It will go on sale starting June 4.
