Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced a partnership with smartphone maker OnePlus. The aim is to drive 5G device ecosystem and make the next-generation cellular network more accessible to users in India.
The partnership between Vi and OnePlus comes ahead of the launch of 5G connectivity in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to launch 5G at the upcoming India Mobile Congress 2022 which is set for October 1st.

OnePlus has the highest penetration of 5G compatible Android devices in India. As per Counterpoint Research’s share tracker for Q2, 2022, the company emerged as the leading 5G smartphone brand in the online channel in Rs 20,000 – Rs 30,000 segment in the first half of 2022.
A host of OnePlus smartphones including the OnePlus 10T, OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus 10R, OnePlus Nord 2T, OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite, and Nord CE 2 have been tested on 5G spectrum bands acquired by Vodafone Idea during the mega auction held earlier this month.
During the mega auction, Vi brought 6,228 MHz of airwaves across 1800MHz, 2100MHz, 2500MHz, 3300MHz, and 26GHz bands for Rs 18,799 crore. The telecom operator added that it will continue to partner with various OEMs to change its 4G customers to upgrade their phones to 5G compatible ones. The company hasn’t shared a detailed roadmap for the rollout of its 5G network in India. Vi’s competitors Jio and Airtel are set to launch the next-generation cellular connectivity in the coming weeks.
