Mobile World Congress is just around the corner and major brands will be unveiling their innovative smartphones and devices. Foldable displays and 5G capability are expected to steal the limelight, along with an array of other high-tech features. Let’s look at the major launches expected at the show:
Samsung’s foldable smartphone and Galaxy Active smartwatch
Samsung will be launching its Galaxy S10 flagships at a press conference in San Francisco ahead of MWC. However, the manufacturer is expected to have some scintillating offerings in the bag during the tech show as well. According to rumours, the company could showcase its first foldable smartphone with a display size of 7.3-inches. Along with this, Samsung is likely to unveil its Galaxy Active smartwatch which will feature the Bixby Assistant and 4GB of RAM. It is also likely to offer secured payments via NFC.
LG G8 ThinQ
LG will be launching its flagship smartphone, the LG G8 ThinQ at MWC 2019. The device is likely to run on the Qualcomm Snapadragon 845 processor with 6GB of RAM, and is rumoured to feature an iPhone-like 3D face unlock feature. Rumours have predicted the company will also launch another smartphone with superior features like 5G support, a 4,000mAh battery and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor.
Sony Xperia XZ4 and XZ4 Compact
The Xperia XZ4 with an unprecedented 21:9 aspect ratio display is likely to launch at Sony’s press conference on February 20th. It could feature a 6.55-inch display, an enormous 4,400mAh battery, 24MP selfie snapper, a triple rear camera setup, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor and 6GB of RAM. The Xperia XZ4 Compact is also expected to launch alongside.
Nokia 9 PureView and 8.1 Plus
Nokia could launch a number of devices as it does every year at MWC. The company is likely to launch the Nokia 8.1 Plus with a punch-hole display and negligible bezels, save the one at the bottom. Moreover, the phone will run on the reputable Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 processor. This isn’t all, for the company is expected to finally launch the Nokia 9 PureView with a penta-camera setup and Snapdragon 845 processor.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G
Xiaomi is holding a press conference at MWC 2019. However, not much is known about what the brand will announce. A rumour has pointed at the launch of an upgraded version of the Mi Mix 3. The new version would probably come with 5G support, while the rest of the specifications are expected to be the same. The Mi Mix 3 has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, 12MP + 12MP dual rear cameras, 24MP + 2MP selfie cameras, a 3,200mAh battery and Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.
OPPO 10x zoom technology
OPPO had unveiled its 5x zoom technology at MWC and now, the company could launch an enhanced version with 10x zoom. This technology utilises a periscope-style prism and uses the width of the device to allow physical depth.
Vivo APEX 2019
Vivo’s APEX 2019 concept will be showcased at MWC 2019. It features a bezel-less display with no selfie snapper. The concept is a device without any holes, which means that it does not have a charging port. It will be charged via magnetic pins present on the rear panel instead. Additionally, the device supports 5G technology along with body soundcasting to produce audio. Vivo launched the APEX 2018 concept with a sliding camera and bezel-less display and it inspired its Vivo NEX smartphone. We can expect a similar innovation from the brand this year as well.
Motorola is speculated to finally relaunch its iconic Moto RAZR phone at MWC, given that the G7 series has already been unveiled. The Moto RAZR is expected to be a flip phone much like the original one, but with a small tweak. Instead of putting a physical keypad below the screen, the phone will have a foldable display. The phone could look pretty unique if it launches and would be a limited edition offering only. Rumours are ripe that the company will produce only 200,000 units of the device.
Huawei P30 and P30 Pro
If multiple leaks and rumours are to be believed, Huawei will launch the P30 and P30 Pro at MWC 2019. However, one should remember that the predecessor of these two devices was launched after MWC 2018 and if this is the case, we won’t be introduced to the phones just yet. That being said, the company may also launch its 5G or foldable smartphone at its press conference.
Microsoft HoloLens 2
Microsoft will likely unveil the second iteration of its HoloLens mixed reality headset. The product has been predicted to have a single Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a bigger battery and a more compact body. Would you be excited to see the HoloLens 2?
nubia wearable smartphone
nubia’s MWC invite hints that the company will launch its flexible wearable smartphone. The company had showcased a prototype of this tech at IFA last year.
