WhatsApp offers users up to Rs 255 cashback for making in-app UPI payments

WhatsApp is offering cashback worth Rs 255 on making transactions via its payments feature that was rolled out in November last year. The popular messaging platform is rewarding users with Rs 51 per transaction for the first five transactions.

The Facebook-owned company aims to attract more people to its payments feature by offering cashback and competing with the likes of Google Pay, Paytm and PhonePe. The promotional offer was first spotted by Indian user Vipin who shared the details with publication WABetaInfo

It’s worth noting that WABetaInfo states that the promotional cashback is being rolled out to specific beta testers. Hence, all users who use the payment feature may not be eligible for the cashback. Additionally, the publication added that the cashback offer may be for a limited period of time and there is no clarity if the feature will be rolled out to all users. 

WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot of a notification congratulating the user for receiving the cashback. Once it is received, the details about the transaction will be available on the History page within WhatsApp payment settings.

WhatsApp users will earn Rs 51 per successful transaction to five different contacts. There is no minimum transaction limit and users can send as little as Re 1 to claim total cashback worth Rs 255. Notably, the feature is available for both Android and iOS users but is also limited only to beta testers. WABetaInfo claims that the promotion strategy is to encourage more users to try WhatsApp Pay.

  1. Click on the ‘Re’ icon in any WhatsApp chat
  2. Add payment method after which you must select your bank account that matches with the WhatsApp number
  3. An SMS will be sent to your phone to verify your identity and bank details
  4. You can then activate and start using the WhatsApp Pay service
