In today’s world, everything is password protected, and rightly so. Whether it’s Wi-Fi or your smartphone, we need to have a password to protect them. One of the reasons for this is that the credentials are automatically saved on our device. How to check WiFi password on Android

Step 1- Firstly, open Settings on an Android smartphone and then navigate to Network & Internet

Step 2- Select WiFi. A list of all stored networks will be displayed; choose the one whose password you wish to know, then click on the gear icon.

Step 3- Directly after tapping on the share option, you can view the WiFi password. 

 

Step 4-You will find the QR code. Scan to connect immediately to that network, or you can take a snap of the same, and after downloading the QR scanner app, you’ll be able to check the WiFi network’s name and password

How to check WiFi password on iOS (iPhone and iPad)

As we all know, Apple is quite strict with its privacy and security so finding WiFi passwords on these devices is a tedious task. However, there is one alternative to check the saved WiFi password. Additionally, you will need a macOS device as it could not be accomplished using Windows laptops or PCs. Here is a step-by-step guide to knowing your saved WiFi password on iOS devices.

Step 1- Go to Settings on your iPhone and tap on iCloud. The Keychain option can be found there. Toggle the switch to activate it

Step 2-Go back to Settings and switch on Personal Hotspot

Step 3- Connect your Mac to the iPhone’s hotspot. Once the hotspot is linked to your Mac, open Spotlight and search for Keychain Access (CMD+Space)

Step 4- In the search box, search for the WiFi password of the saved network that you want to know

Step 5- A pop-up window will appear with network information

Step 6-Select Show Password from the drop-down box. The system will then ask for your administrator user credentials

Step 7 – After entering the correct credentials, you will find your WiFi password

How to check WiFi password on Windows

If you have another Windows PC linked to your WiFi network and have forgotten your network password, you can recover it by following the below-mentioned steps. Once you’ve discovered your password, you may use it to connect to your WiFi network from another computer or device.

Step 1- Choose one of the following on a Windows PC that is connected to your WiFi network, depending on the version of Windows that is installed

  • On Windows 11, go to the Start button, type control panel, then select Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center
  • On Windows 10, click on the magnifying glass symbol on the bottom left of the screen, then select Settings  > Network & Internet  > Status  > Network and Sharing Center
  • On Windows 8.1 or below, directly search for Network and then select Network and Sharing Center from the list of results

Step 2-Once you have selected Network and Sharing centre, select a name for your WiFi network. Then, on the right side of the window, next to Connections, click on the connection whose password you want to know.

Step 3- Select wireless Properties on the pop up that appears on the screen

Step 4-In Wireless Network Properties, select the Security tab, then tap on the Show characters check box. The network password will be displayed in the Network security key box.

 

How to check WiFi password on macOS

On macOS, there is also a way to locate WiFi network passwords. Furthermore, keychain Access is an application that comes with the operating system. The app keeps track of all the passwords you’ve saved on your Mac. Below mentioned are the steps that will help one to know the WiFi password in macOS.

Step 1 -Launch the Keychain Access software on your device and then open it

Step 2- Click on the password option appearing on the left side of the screen

Step 3- Enter the network name in the search box whose password you want to know. Double-click the network name after you’re finished

Step 4- A popup will appear displaying network details. Select the show password option

Step 5- The system will ask for your administrator user credentials. After entering the correct system password, you will be able to view your WiFi password

Once you are done with all the steps, you will get your network name and password.

How to check the default WiFi password of your router

It is very easy to find a password if you haven’t changed your default password. Routers provided by ISP come with default usernames and passwords. Below are the various ways to find your default password for WiFi.

  • Check the label on the router. You can find the Wireless network name and password printed on the back of the device. You can use this password to connect to new devices
  • If, for some reason, the router is inaccessible to you, try finding the manual given to you while installing the router. If you have lost, then you can try the following combination. For most routers, the general default username and password is “admin”. However, these credentials may vary depending on the maker of the router
  • You can also find it by clicking here and giving input according to your device
  • You can also view the saved WiFi password by logging into your Router’s admin page. Type your IP address on the search bar of your browser then in the settings, you can view your network password

How to reset your WiFi password

If you have lost your router’s web interface login credentials and all the above-mentioned steps have not worked, then also you have nothing to worry about. You can easily reset your WiFi password and connect to the network. Here are the steps you need to follow in order to reset your WiFi Password. 

Step 1 – Click on the Reset button on the router. It’s often a pinhole button you’ll have to press with a bent paperclip or a similarly small object. Press the button down for ten seconds or so, and your router’s settings will be completely erased and reset to their defaults. By doing this, remember all your router’s data will be lost. The WiFi network name and password will be restored to the default ones on the router.

Step 2 – Now look at the WiFi settings on any device connected to the WiFi network, and you’ll see the network name. If no devices are connected, you should see this information printed on the router itself or in the router’s documentation.

Step 3 – You can now use the default password printed on the back of the router.
