Xiaomi to debut 100W Super Charge Turbo tech next year

For some time now, smartphone manufacturers have been competing with each other to provide the fastest charging technology. Now Xiaomi is taking fast charging to another level with its 100W Super Charge Turbo Charging tech. The company had showcased the technology earlier this year and based on the latest reports, it might hit commercial devices next year. Xiaomi announced the rollout at its Developer Conference in its home country, according to reports on Chinese social media. There is no word on which phone will be the first from the company to arrive with the 100W fast charging tech, but we expect it to be the Mi Mix 4.

Xiaomi has been working on 100W fast charging for some time, so it is likely to arrive next year. Multiple posts on Weibo have revealed some details regarding the upcoming tech. Xiaomi claims that the 100W fast charging technology can fully charge a 4,000mAh battery unit in just 17 minutes. It can charge up to 60 percent in 7 minutes.

At its developer conference, Xiaomi said that its 100W fast charger will feature a high-voltage charge pump and the supported device will be equipped with a double-battery cell architecture. Fast charging speeds also come with safety concerns like smartphones catching fire and exploding, so it’s unknown what protection Xiaomi’s charging tech will feature.

However, Xiaomi isn’t the only brand to be working on 100W charging tech. Back in June, Vivo had announced its 120W SuperFlash Charge that is touted to top-up a 4,000mAh battery in just 13 minutes, which is a couple of minutes faster than Xiaomi’s tech. Neither Xiaomi nor Vivo have announced their fast charging technologies in commercial devices yet.

So, while it is more than likely that we will a smartphone with 100W+ fast charging next year, it remains to be seen which Chinese brand will be the first one to to release it on a phone.
