Xiaomi 12 series: display and design

With a 6.28-inch AMOLED punch-hole display onboard, the Xiaomi 12 is a compact flagship. It supports an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and 12-bit colours. This display is way smaller than the 6.81-inch AMOLED panel that was seen on the Xiaomi Mi 11 5G. The company is yet to share the display details of the Xiaomi 12X. Since it is said to be a toned-down version of the Xiaomi 12, it may feature the same 6.28-inch AMOLED screen.

Coming to the Xiaomi 12 Pro, it is blessed with a larger 6.73-inch Samsung E5 AMOLED LTPO display coupled with microprism technology. It supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz and offers Quad HD+ resolution. The Xiaomi 12 series’ display have acquired 15-screen related records and A+ rating from DisplayMate. The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro will come with Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

Xiaomi is yet to reveal the rear design of the Xiaomi 12 lineup. However, the leaked images by Evan Blass and CAD renders by OnLeaks have revealed that the Xiaomi 12 house a rectangle-shaped module for its triple camera unit. The Xiaomi 12 Pro and 12X may sport a similar design language. The Xiaomi 12 images have revealed that it may arrive in three colours such as green, grey, and light blue.

Xiaomi is yet to confirm the camera details of the Xiaomi 12 lineup. It is speculated that the trio could be equipped with a 50-megapixel triple camera unit. Probably, the Pro model may feature different auxiliary cameras than the 12 and 12X handsets. A Chinese tipster had claimed that the Xiaomi 12X has a 20-megapixel camera for capturing selfies, whereas its rear camera setup has an OIS-assisted 50-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 5-megapixel telemacro snapper.

Xiaomi 12 series: hardware and software

The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset may come with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Snapdragon 870 powered Xiaomi 12X may come with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 built-in storage.

The 12 trio will be the first Xiaomi phones to come with Android 12 preinstalled. The smartphones are likely to run MIUI 13 based on Android 12 and the new version of MIUI will debut alongside the trio. The Xiaomi 12 series may feature 4,500mAh to 5,00mAh battery. The 12 and 12X models are expected to support 67W rapid charging, while the Pro model will be equipped with 120W fast charge support.

Xiaomi 12 series: other features

Xiaomi 12 Pro will be equipped with the company’s third self-developed chip called Surge P1 after the older Surge S1 and C1 chips. The currently available phones that support 100W+ fast charging is equipped with a dual-cell battery system. This is the reason why 120W charging phones battery size is limited to 4,500mAh capacity. The presence of Surge P1 brings forth 120W charging on a single-cell battery. This indicates that the 12 Pro may house a larger battery of around 5,000mAh typical value. For heat dissipation, the Pro model will be equipped with a vapour chamber liquid cooling system with a 2600m2 cooling area.
