Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Launching in China on March 18, Key Specs Revealed Via AnTuTu Benchmark

Update: The upcoming Black Shark 2 gaming smartphone has now appeared on the AnTuTu database as “Blackshark Skywalker”. As confirmed by the smartphone’s Geekbench listings, the Black Shark 2 will be powered by a Snapdragon 855 octa-core processor with an Adreno 640 GPU. The variant that has popped up on AnTuTu features 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. However, as suggested by the smartphone’s recent appearance on the Geekbench benchmarking platform, the top-end variant of the Black Shark 2 will come equipped with 12GB of RAM. While it is yet to be confirmed, we expect the 12GB RAM variant of the gaming smartphone to feature 256GB of internal storage. The AnTuTu listing also confirms the upcoming smartphone will have a 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, although the display size still remains a mystery. As for software, the Black Shark 2 will debut with the Android 9.0 Pie operating system right out of the box. When it comes to performance, the upcoming Black Shark gaming smartphone scored 3,59,973 points on AnTuTu. Xiaomi’s Mi 9, in comparison, scores over 3,70,000 points on the AnTuTu benchmark.

The upcoming Black Shark 2 gaming smartphone with Snapdragon 855 chipset and 12GB of RAM was spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database yesterday. Today, the Xiaomi gaming sub-brand announced that it will be launching its next gaming smartphone in China on March 18. The launch poster also confirms that the device will actually be called the Black Shark 2.

Black Shark 2 Gaming Smartphone Arriving in China on March 18

As confirmed by the smartphone’s listing on Geekbench, the Black Shark 2 smartphone will be running on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 7nm mobile processor. Since it will be a gaming-focused smartphone, we can expect it to have quite an impressive cooling solution as well as a special high-performance mode. Even though it did not reveal many details, Black Shark did confirm recently that its next smartphone will come with Liquid Cool 3.0 technology. While the top-end variant of the smartphone will pack a whopping 12GB of RAM, the base variant is expected to feature 8GB of RAM. Since the two smartphones released by Black Shark so far do not include a microSD card slot, it is highly likely that the upcoming Black Shark 2 will not support memory expansion either.

Unfortunately, there is no word yet on the rest of the Black Shark 2’s key features and hardware specifications. We expect the smartphone to sport a slightly bigger display compared to the 6.01-inch AMOLED panel on the Black Shark Helo. It may also come with improved optics and faster charging speeds. Rumors suggest the Black Shark 2 may offer up to 27W wired fast charging, similar to Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphone, the Mi 9. However, it remains to be seen if Black Shark will bundle a 27W charger in the box with the Black Shark 2. Xiaomi only ships an 18W charger in the box with the Mi 9.
