Xiaomi CC Smartphone Series Launching In China On July 2nd

Last week, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun introduced the new CC sub-brand of smartphones. In partnership with Meitu, the CC series will include youth-centric smartphones with photography powered by Meitu’s imaging algorithms. Today, the Chinese firm has officially confirmed that it will be holding a launch event on July 2nd in Beijing to announce the new CC series smartphones.

The new poster released by Xiaomi only confirms the launch time and date of the new CC series, and it does not include the name(s) of the device(s) that will be unleashed on the said date. Rumors are rife that the first Xiaomi Mi CC series phones will be releasing in the market as Mi CC9 and Mi CC9e. A new smartphone with model number M1904F3BC was spotted with its images on the database of China’s TENAA authority. It is speculated that it could be the Mi CC9 or CC9e smartphone. The same model has received certification from China’s 3C body through which it has been revealed that it will carry support for 18W rapid charging. Xiaomi Mi CC9e is rumoured to come with 5.97-inch full HD+ AMOLED display, Snapdragon 710 chipset, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. It will feature a 48-megapixel (Sony IMX586) + 8-megapixel + 5-megapixel triple camera setup and 18W fast charging support through USB Type-C. The Mi CC9 may come with 6.39-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 730 chipset, up to 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of native storage and 48-megapixel (Sony IMX586) + 16-megapixel + 12-megapixel triple camera setup and support for 27W rapid charging via USB Type-C.

The Mi CC9 and CC9e are expected to arrive with some common features such as a waterdrop-like notch design for displays with in-screen fingerprint sensors, Gorilla Glass 5 front and rear panels, 4,000mAh batteries and 32-megapixel selfie snappers.

The Xiaomi Mi CC9e is expected to debut in models of 6GB RAM + 64GB storage for 1,599 Yuan (~Rs 16,150), 6GB RAM + 128GB storage for 1,899 Yuan (~Rs 19,180) and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage for 2,199 Yuan (~Rs 22,200). The Mi CC9 is rumored to come in models such as 6GB RAM + 128GB storage for 2,599 Yuan (~Rs 26,250), 8GB RAM + 128GB storage for 2,799 Yuan (~Rs 28,630) and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage for 3,099 Yuan (~Rs 31,300).

The Mi CC9 and CC9e will be running a custom version of MIUI 10 that will be overlaid on Android 9 Pie OS. Here is the new boot screen animation that will be seen on the forthcoming CC smartphones from Xiaomi.


Speculations are rife that a CC phone with flip-up camera module is also in works. A leaked image of the phone has also surfaced. However, there is no information on its specs yet.

What is Xiaomi Mi CC series?

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has revealed that the CC stands for Colourful and Creative and the phones that will be made in the series will be built by the youngest product team of the company. Hence, it appears that the CC smartphones will sport an attractive design.

The number 9 refers in the names of the upcoming CC9 and CC9e phones refer to the age of the firm. The CC series smartphone will be aimed towards a younger audience. The lineup is expected to include female-focused smartphones. Also, imaging technologies coming from “Meitu AI Aesthetics Lab” will allow CC smartphones to excel in photography.
