Leaked image of Xiaomi and Meitu’s first smartphone reveals flip camera module

Last year, Xiaomi entered into a strategic partnership with Meitu and decided to take over their hardware business. And now, Meitu seems to be making a re-entry into the smartphone business. A leaked poster of the upcoming Meitu-branded smartphone has been shared on Weibo. Interestingly, the flip camera bears resemblance to the ASUS 6z, which was just launched in India.

The rear camera flips open and can be used to take selfies and place video calls. It is worth noting that the square-shaped camera unit is placed on the top of the back panel. Further, Meitu is expected to employ a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor on the back. The fingerprint sensor is not visible at the back/front which inadvertently hints at an in-display fingerprint sensor.

On the design front, the new device from Meitu comes finished in a gradient finish and a glossy back. The edges of the device feature a distinctive pink hue while the volume rocker and power button are placed on the right. The Chinese caption on the image translates to “Meitu Little Fairy” and we are not sure whether it signifies something or is just a codename.

Meanwhile, the main specifications of the upcoming Meitu phones are still under the wraps. In order to accommodate the flip rear camera unit, the device is likely to come with thin bezels. We also need to remember that Meitu is best known for its camera app and it won’t be surprising to see these apps on the upcoming smartphone.
