Xiaomi introduced the Mi 5X to much fanfare last month in China. Some days back, Manu Kumar Jain, VP of Xiaomi teased via a tweet that a new dual-camera smartphone might be on its way to India in September. The Chinese smartphone maker has now began sending press invites for an event scheduled to happen on September 5 in New Delhi.
The press invite mentions ‘Flagship Dual Camera’ and indicates two lenses which confirms that it’s a dual camera smartphone. If we take a closer look, the image also reveals that one of the lenses will be bigger than the other. It is a further indication that the smartphone might be Mi 5X.
It was also reported that Xiaomi might launch the Mi 5X as an Android One phone with the name ‘Xiaomi A1’. If this happens, the upcoming Xiaomi smartphone might come sans the MIUI 9 and will become the first phone to do so. Interestingly, Mi 5X was the first phone to launch with MIUI 9 out of the box.
Xiaomi Mi 5X, for those who don’t recall, is a budget mid-priced smartphone with a dual rear camera. The rear camera setup in the phone is identical to Mi 6, the brand’s flagship phone. Both the sensors in the Mi 5X are of 12 megapixels each. One of them is a wide-angle lens with an f/2.2 aperture and the other one is a telephoto lens with f/2.6 aperture. For selfies, it features a 5-megapixel front shooter.
Design-wise, Xiaomi Mi 5X follows a different theme from other Mi phones and the metal unibody design looks pretty impressive. It comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The phone is available in three different colours – Gold, Black and Rose Gold (Pink).
With Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC and 4GB of RAM, the phone doesn’t compromises on the performance aspect either. It comes with a storage option of 64GB which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The phone has dual-SIM compatibility and both SIMs need to be nano sized.
As for connectivity, the phone has 4G VoLTE support, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS/ A-GPS. For charging and establishing other connections, an USB Type-C port is provided. A 3.5mm audio jack for headphones is offered as well.
Xiaomi Mi 5X is priced at 1499 RMB which roughly translates to Rs. 14,200 in India. At this price point, the phone seems like an absolute bang for the buck.
