Xiaomi, in an event held today has made some major announcements on both fronts, software and hardware. The major highlight of the event was Xiaomi Mi 5X, a mid-budget smartphone with good specifications and a dual-camera setup. Let’s dive into the details of the newly launched phone.
After a series of leaks and rumours about the phone, not much was left for Xiaomi to surprise us during the launch of Mi 5X. The specifications of the phone seem amazing.
Xiaomi Mi 5X follows a different design theme from other Mi phones and the metal unibody design looks pretty impressive. It comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The phone is available in three different colours – Gold, Black and Rose Gold (Pink).
Xiaomi Mi 5X houses a dual-camera setup with one being a 12MP wide-angle sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and the other one is a 12MP telephoto lens with a f/2.6 aperture. The camera setup is similar to Xiaomi’s current flagship Mi 6. The Mi 5X also offers a ‘Portrait Mode’ which recently became a trend in premium flagships like the iPhone 7 Plus and the OnePlus 5. For selfies and video calling, there is a 5MP sensor backed with real-time beautification technology allowing users to beautify their face even during live streams.
With Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC and 4GB of RAM, the phone doesn’t compromises on the performance aspect either. The Mi 5X comes with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and it will also be the first phone to come with MIUI 9, which was launched in today’s event as well. It comes with a storage option of 64GB which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The phone has dual-SIM compatibility and both SIMs need to be nano sized.
Another new feature in the Xiaomi Mi 5X is the presence of DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm as well as a standalone amplifier, both of which promise to vastly improve the audio quality in headphones.
As for connectivity, the phone has 4G VoLTE support, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS/ A-GPS. For charging and establishing other connections, an USB Type-C port is provided. A 3.5mm audio jack for headphones is offered as well.
Xiaomi Mi 5X is priced at 1499 RMB which roughly translates to Rs. 14,200 in India. At this price point, the phone seems like an absolute bang for the buck. The Mi 5X will go on sale in China starting August 1 and registrations for the same are already open. In fact, 200,000 registrations were already made just within 24 hours. Mi 5X’s India launch date and pricing are yet to be announced by Xiaomi.
