Xiaomi says that its self-developed remote charging technology will be game-changer and an attempt to turn the whole house wireless. However, the brand has not revealed any plans to commercialise the Mi Air Charger. Read on to know more about the innovative device below.

Mi Air Charge: how it works

Mi Air Charge is capable of charging multiple devices at a time and delivering 5W of power to a single device. The technology doesn’t require any connecting cables or a stand. The device is equipped with a 5-phase built-in interface antenna that can accurately detect the position of the device to charge it. The Mi Air Charge has a phase control array consisting of 144 antennas that can emit millimetre waves through beam-forming.

Xiaomi says that on the smartphone side it has developed a built-in ‘beacon antenna’ and ‘receiving antenna array’. The former broadcasts position information while the later that has 14 antenna array converts millimetre wave signal into electrical energy through the rectifier circuit.

The Mi Air Charge can refuel devices remotely within a radius of several meters. Xiaomi adds that physical obstacles do not reduce the charging efficiency. The brand is also working on self-developed space isolation charging technology that will be able to work with smartwatches, bracelets and other wearable devices.

As mentioned earlier, Xiaomi hasn’t revealed any plans to commercialize the Mi Air Charge as of now. It will be interesting to see if the device will ever see the light of the day.
