Xiaomi Mi Band 5 leak reveals larger display and NFC support

Xiaomi had launched the Mi Band 4 (review) in its home country last July. The device arrived in Indian markets in September. The brand has been making upgrades to its Mi Band fitness trackers and offering them at an aggressive price tag. Now Xiaomi is reportedly working on its upcoming Mi Band 5. The device has been leaked online, giving us a hint at what to expect from the fitness tracker. A report by TizenHelp reveals that the global variant of the Mi Band 5 will feature NFC support and a larger touch screen. Currently, NFC connectivity is only limited to Chinese markets with the Mi Pay option supported on the Mi Band 4.

NFC connectivity on global variants of Mi Band 5 hint at contactless payments via Google Pay and other payment services as well. Another upgrade will be in the display department, where the Mi Band 5 will feature a larger 1.2-inch colour OLED screen compared to the 0.95-inch one on the Band 4. 

Previously, Xiaomi’s subsidiary Huami had confirmed that the Mi Band 5 is in the works. The report reveals that the upcoming fitness tracker is expected to cost RMB 179 (~Rs 1,800) and debut in June in China. 

Mi Band 4 specifications and price

The Mi Band 4 features a 0.95-inch AMOLED touchscreen display. The device offers various fitness-related features like heart rate tracking, sleep monitoring, sedentary reminders and a step counter. It is water-resistant up to 5ATM and also capable of swim tracking. 

The Mi Band 4 offers convenient features like music control, notifications, weather updates, answer/reject for incoming calls and more. The fitness wearable claims to deliver up to 20 days of battery life on a single charge.
