Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of its next-generation Mi Band 5 on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. It will first debut in Xiaomi’s home country on June 11th. The upcoming wearable will arrive as the successor to last year’s Mi Smart Band 4.
Xiaomi hasn’t revealed any details about the Mi Band 5 yet, but leaks and rumours have been doing the rounds on the internet. The fitness tracker is expected to pack a number of new features compared to its predecessor. Past reports hinted that the Mi Band 5 could come with a larger display and NFC connectivity on global variants.
Mi Band 5 specifications and features
The Mi Band 5 is rumoured to feature a 1.2-inch OLED display that is larger than 0.95-inch screen on its predecessor. The device is expected to come with a new plug-in type charging design. Some reports also suggest that the fitness tracker will have a punch-hole camera on the display.
In terms of health-related features, the Mi Band 5 is expected to be equipped with SpO2 (blood oxygen) sensor. It will also reportedly feature menstrual cycle tracking. The Mi Band 5 will come with a remote shutter control feature allowing users to remotely capture photos from their smartphone.
The upcoming wearable device is tipped to support tracking for five new exercise modes including yoga, elliptical machine, rowing machine, skipping rope and indoor cycling. The Mi Band 5 is tipped to come with Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI) that will show users how much activity is required to stay healthy.
The Mi Band 5 in China will debut with Xiaomi’s XiaoAi assistant, while the international variant will reportedly come with support for Amazon Alexa. For the global variant, the NFC connectivity on the device will enable contactless payments via Google Pay.
