Xiaomi Mi Band 5 with 1.1-inch OLED display and magnetic charger launched: price, specifications

Xiaomi has launched its next-generation fitness tracker i.e. the Mi Band 5 in its home country today. The latest offering is the successor to last year’s Mi Band 4. The wearable device arrives with upgraded specifications and features. Prior to launch, the Chinese brand had shared teaser posters of the Mi Band 5 revealing design and a few key features of the device.

Compared to its predecessor, the latest wearable device comes with a larger display, magnetic charging and new features like a magnetic charger and women’s health tracking mode. Let’s take a look at what the Mi Band 5 offers out of the box.

Mi Band 5 specifications and features

The Mi Band 5 comes with a larger display than the Mi Band 4

The Mi Band 5 sports a 1.1-inch OLED display which is larger than the 0.95-inch screen on the Mi Band 4. The device retains the pill-shaped design, but with reduced bezels and a larger screen-to-body ratio. There is a small capacitive home button at the bottom of the display. The Mi Band 5 is water-resistant up to 50 meters. The fitness tracker comes with Black, Red, Green and Yellow strap options. 

As is common with wearable devices, the Mi Band 5 comes with a heart rate sensor. The wearable also come with a women’s health mode offering a period tracking function. The Mi Band 5 offers 11 sports modes including indoor and outdoor run, outdoor walk, indoor and outdoor cycling, fat-reducing running, free training, yoga, elliptical, rowing machine, skipping rope and indoor bike. The fitness tracker also comes with a sleep tracker and can measure stress and breathing activity. 

The Mi Band 5 in China supports NFC for making payments through the device. On the convenience front, the Mi Band 5 displays social media notifications, music control, incoming calls, text, weather updates and more. There’s a new remote-control camera feature that lets users click a photo from their smartphone. 

Xiaomi claims the Mi Band 5 is capable of offering up to 14 days of usage. The device features a magnetic charger, which lets you charge the band without taking out the core. 

Mi Band 5 pricing and availability

The Mi Band 5 non-NFC variant carries a price tag of RMB 189 (~Rs 2,000) while the NFC version costs RMB 229 (~Rs 2,500) in China. It will go on sale in the country from June 18th. We expect Xiaomi to launch the Mi Band 5 in India in the coming months.
