Smartphone maker Xiaomi has introduced a new innovative vending machine initiative to sell smartphones and accessories in India, and is the first brand in the country to sell smartphones via vending machines. They are dubbed as Mi Express Kiosks.
The Mi Express Kiosk allows consumers to purchase smartphones and mobile accessories directly. The kiosk accepts all forms of payment including credit and debit cards, cash, and UPI making purchases easy for customers. Purchasing through the kiosks lets consumers directly get the product, eliminating operational and cost inefficiencies. Xiaomi also states that it provides its latest smartphones to Mi fans at an honest price, similar to that of Mi Homes and Mi.com.
Xiaomi smartphones are difficult to buy due to the flash sale and limited stocks. The company claims that Mi Express Kiosks serve as a highly effective initiative for consumers to easily access and buy Xiaomi products in the offline market. Xiaomi says that all technologies equipping Mi Express Kiosks were researched and developed in India.
The first kiosk has already been inaugurated at Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru. Xiaomi aims to set up more kiosks in the coming months and gradually expand the retail plan across metro cities at prime locations with greater footfalls such as tech parks, metro stations, airports, and shopping malls. Customers will be able to get information about the vending machines on Xiaomi’s official site.
It will be interesting to see whether this innovative retail strategy from Xiaomi will be successful in India.
