Xiaomi had released a launch poster on its official Weibo page yesterday, confirming the launch of a new smartphone dubbed “Play” on December 24. Xiaomi today published a few more images on its official Weibo page, confirming that the “Play” will be an all-new smartphone. Some reports had claimed that the Xiaomi Play would be a rebranded POCO F1 for the Chinese market.
Xiaomi Mi Play With Waterdrop Notch Display, Dual Rear Cameras Teased
The latest teaser images of the Mi Play smartphone reveal the handset will be Xiaomi’s first to feature a waterdrop notch display. So far, Xiaomi has gone with a more traditional notch on its smartphones. Thanks to the waterdrop notch at the top, we expect the Mi Play to have a slightly higher screen-to-body ratio when compared to other mid-range Xiaomi smartphones with a notched display. In terms of design, the waterdrop notch makes it look quite different from the company’s other devices. It is not just the front that is different from other Xiaomi handsets, the Mi Play appears to have a glass back with a gradient finish. The dual rear cameras are vertically-stacked with the LED flash module placed below them. We can also see a circular fingerprint sensor mounted on the back of the handset.
Apart from the smartphone’s design, there is absolutely nothing that we know regarding the hardware specifications of the Mi Play. As is quite clear from the images above, the Mi Play is not going to be a completely gaming-centric smartphone like the Black Shark Helo. Going by the name of the handset, it could be a gaming-oriented smartphone similar to the Honor Play. Since the hardware specifications of the Mi Play are a complete mystery at this point, all we can do is wait for the launch event next week. We also expect Xiaomi to continue releasing new teaser images this week, which could help give us a better idea regarding the key highlights of the Mi Play.
