Xiaomi launched its latest fitness tracker called the Mi Smart Band 5 in India recently. The new launch comes in as the successor to the Mi Smart Band 4 that was launched last year. The new-generation wearable brings a larger display, magnetic charging, women’s health mode, and upgraded sleep monitoring over its predecessor.
Xiaomi has launched the latest wearable with a price tag of Rs 2,499, which is slightly higher than the price tag of the Mi Smart Band 4. However, you get a lot more out of the latest wearable from the brand. If you are wondering which of the two should you go for, here’s a detailed comparison of both models.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 vs Mi Smart Band 4: price in India
As mentioned before, the Mi Smart Band 5 comes with a price tag of Rs 2,499, The wearable is available in Black, Teal, Navy Blue, Orange and Purple colours. It can be purchased from mi.com, Amazon and Mi Home Stores.
The Mi Smart Band 4 is still listed for Rs 2,299, which is the price tag it was launched with. Currently, the wearable is only available in a Black colour. It can be picked up from the same stores as the Mi Band 5.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 vs Mi Smart Band 4: design and display
Both Mi Smart Band 4 and Mi Smart Band 5 have a similar pill-shaped design with a small capacitive button at the bottom of the display. However, there’s one major design change, which tips the scale in the favour of the latest launch. The Mi Smart Band 5 features magnetic charging and therefore — unlike the Mi Smart Band 4 — can be charged directly without removing the module from the strap.
Coming to the display, the Mi Smart Band 4 features a 0.96-inch AMOLED display with 240 x 120 pixels resolution. The Mi Smart Band 5 comes with a larger 1.1-inch AMOLED display with reduced bezels and 294 x 126 pixels resolution.
Both wearables are 5ATM water-resistant, which means they can survive underwater up to 50 meters.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 vs Mi Smart Band 4: wellness and smart features
The Mi Smart band 4 offered six workout modes including treadmill, exercise, outdoor running, cycling, walking, and pool swimming. The wearable can track steps, distance and calories burned for all modes. Apart from these, there are wellness features such as sleep monitoring, heart rate monitoring, and idle alerts.
The Mi Smart Band 5 increases the workout modes to 11, which include indoor/outdoor running, indoor/outdoor cycling, outdoor walk, fat reducing running, free training, yoga, elliptical, rowing machine, skipping rope, and indoor bike. It has all the wellness features offered by its predecessor along with several new features. The new additions include stress monitoring, guided breathing exercise, women’s health (menstrual period and ovulation record reminder), and Personal Activity Intelligence (PAI).
Coming to the smart features, both wearables offer app notifications, incoming calls, text, weather updates and music control playback. The latest launch also brings the new camera shutter control feature and unlocking the paired phone (only for MIUI devices).
Both wearables connect to the smartphone using Bluetooth 5.0 BLE and Xiaomi Mi Fit app. The Mi Smart Band 4 supports smartphones running Android 4.4 or above and iOS 9.0 or later. The Mi Smart Band 5 supports Android 5.0 or iOS 10.0 and above.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 vs Mi Smart Band 4: battery
The Mi Smart Band 4 is equipped with a 135mAh battery, which takes around two hours to charge fully and offers up to 20 days of standard usage. The Mi Smart Band 5, on the other hand, features a smaller 125mAh battery offering around 14 days of normal usage and 21 days of usage in power saving mode. The new wearable also charges fully in around 2 hours.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 vs Mi Smart Band 4: bottomline
The Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5 is only Rs 200 more expensive than its predecessor but brings a lot more to the table. New features like a larger display, magnetic charging, menstrual cycle tracking, stress monitoring, and more workout modes make the new launch one of the best budget fitness trackers in the market. However, the Mi Smart Band 4 is still a very capable device, and if you already own it we don’t think you need to upgrade this year.
