On the occasion of its 10th-anniversary yesterday, Xiaomi unveiled a range of products in its home country. Alongside the Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra, the brand also unveiled the Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition. It is claimed to be the world’s first mass-produced transparent OLED television.
The Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition lets users see through the screen when switched off. The television comes with a circular base that houses the hardware components. To recall, LG had showcased a transparent TV prototype last year. Let’s take a look at Xiaomi’s transparent TV below.
Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition specifications and features
The Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition features a 55-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and MEMC compensation. The TV offers a 93 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut and a static contrast ratio of 1,50,000:1. Being a transparent display, it’s likely that the user’s viewing experience will be affected by what’s behind the screen, so it’s ideal to have a dark surface behind.
Design-wise, the Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition is 5.7mm thick and comes with narrow bezels except for a large chin that rests on a circular base. It houses the main processing unit and speakers as well. The television can’t be mounted on a wall and the attached circular base is the only way to place it. In terms of audio, the television is equipped with two 8W speakers backed by Dolby Atmos speakers, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD.
Under the hood, the Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition is equipped with a MediaTek 9650 processor with Xiaomi’s AI Master Smart Engine. It packs 3GB RAM and offers 32GB onboard storage. Connectivity-wise, the television features dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, three HDMI ports, two USB ports and an Ethernet port located on the back panel. The TV runs on custom-made version of MIUI and comes with Always-on display mode. It allows access to Xiaomi’s AIoT ecosystem and supports Airplay and Miracast.
Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition pricing and availability
Xiaomi has priced the Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition at RMB 49,999 (~Rs 5,40,000). It will go on sale in China on August 16th at 10am. Global availability of the television is not known yet.
