Xiaomi Mi TV Stick to launch in India on August 5th

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi TV Stick Android TV dongle earlier this month. Today, the company has announced on Twitter that it will be launching the Mi TV Stick in the country on August 5th at 12pm. A microsite teasing the features of the product is also live on Xiaomi India’s website.

Xiaomi had previously launched the Mi Box 4K in India, which is an Android streaming box with 4K and HDR support. The Mi TV Stick is an HDMI dongle that supports 1080p streams. As a result, we can expect the Mi TV Stick to be priced considerably lower than the Mi Box 4K in India. It will compete with the Fire TV Stick in the country.

The Mi TV Stick is a media streaming stick running Android TV 9.0

The Mi TV Stick can be connected to the HDMI 2.0 port on a TV, monitor, or a projector. The device runs Android TV 9.0 and it comes with access to Google services such as built-in Chromecast, Play Store, and Google Assistant. It will give users access to popular OTT apps like Disney+ Hotstar, Netflix, Prime Video and Spotify, with more available to download via the Play Store.

The Mi TV Stick is powered by Amlogic S902 Y2 chipset and 1GB of RAM. It has 8GB of eMMC 5.2 storage. It carries support for Dolby and DTS Surround Sound output.

The device comes with a Bluetooth enabled remote with dedicated buttons for accessing Google Assistant for voice commands, Netflix and Prime Video. The Mi TV Stick carries support for Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity.

Xiaomi Mi TV Stick pricing and availability

The Mi TV Stick was launched in European markets with a price tag of €39.99 (~Rs 3,500). However, given that the Mi Box 4K is priced at Rs 3,499 in India, so we can expect the Mi TV Stick to be considerably cheaper.
