Xiaomi launched its flagship Mi 11 smartphone in China yesterday. It debuted as the first Snapdragon 888 powered device. At the launch event, the Chinese brand also announced the latest version of its custom interface i.e. the MIUI 12.5.

MIUI 12.5 follows the MIUI 12 and comes with various new features and improvements. Xiaomi added that the latest version seems like a minor update but actually brings lots of changes including enhanced privacy, application handling and better connectivity with Windows systems. Visual design changes
Xiaomi says that MIUI 12.5 is lighter, faster and more efficient than before. The company has reduced the overall system apps that can be uninstalled compared to iOS, EMUI and ColorOS. The new custom interface version improves aesthetics and visual design.
Xiaomi has added a new dynamic wallpaper of Four Sisters Mountain in Sichuan, China. Dynamic wallpapers can change according to the weather and time around the user. There is also a dedicated thread for gestures, priority scheduling with improved response time.
Privacy features and performance improvements
MIUI 12.5 comes with improved privacy. The latest version will prevent applications from accessing your location, private data, saving passwords and even accessing clipboards. The Xiaomi App Store will have special instructions for privacy which involves risks, security tampering, and avoiding malicious content.
As for performance, the MIUI 12.5 uses 20 percent fewer cores than before with 35 percent background memory and 25 percent less power consumption.
Notification sounds and haptics
The latest version of Xiaomi’s custom interface adds revamped notification sounds from natural animals from South America Rainforest, Australia, East African grassland and the Arctic Circle. The haptics has also been improved and Xiaomi has refined the feedback vibrations options like lock, tap, gestures etc.
MIUI+
With MIUI+, MIUI 12.5 aims at integrating the functions of the user’s Android phone with a Windows PC. It’s similar to Microsoft’s Your Phone app. Users can view phone notifications on their Windows device, copy-paste text, access and edit files, open screenshots and view web pages from mobile.

Xiaomi has announced a list of 21 supported devices and the closed beta of the MIUI 12.5 will be released to these select phones over the air. The public beta will start from mid-January 2021. Smartphones that will support MIUI 12.5 include:
