Last month, Xiaomi had unveiled the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones in India. After teasing the arrival of the of Redmi 5 since a week, the Chinese manufacturer has finally announced it today through a livestreamed video. The Redmi 5 is essentially the very same handset that was launched in China in December last year. Since the handset has arrived with improvements in aspects like display, design and performance compared to the predecessor model, it is dubbed as ‘Compact Powerhouse’ by the company.
Redmi 5 Design
The Redmi 5 is the first Redmi series phone to arrive with a full screen design that is flanked with an 18:9 aspect ratio supporting display. The handset sports a metal unibody design. With a thickness of 7.7mm, it is the thinnest ever Redmi phone. It comes with reinforced corners to protect the large display of the phone. For additional safety, Xiaomi is providing a free and ultra-slim case for the buyers of Redmi 5. It comes in four color options such as Lake Blue, Gold, Black and Rose Gold.
Redmi 5 Specs and Features
The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD screen that offer an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1,440 pixels. The 14mm Snapdragon 450 chipset that powers the likes of Vivo V7+ and Honor 7C is present under the hood of the Redmi 5 phone. It is equipped with two sheets of pyrolytic sheet that reduces the temperature of device by 2 degrees.
The 16 GB storage model of Redmi 5 features 2 GB of RAM. Its 32 GB and 64 GB variants respectively features 3 GB of RAM and 4 GB of RAM. It is fueled by a 3,300mAh battery that offers a standby time of 17 hours. With continuous gaming, the phone can last for up to 9 hours. It supports continuous video playback for up to 10 hours.
The Redmi 5 is equipped with a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera that has a pixel size of 1.25micron. The handset is capable of snapping impressive shots in low-light conditions. It has a selfie camera of 5-megapixel that is assisted by a dedicated LED flash. The device is loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat that is overlaid with MIUI 9 skin.
Redmi 5 Pricing and Availability
The 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB Redmi 5 models are respectively priced at Rs. 7,999, Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 10,999. Amazon India will exclusively begin the online sales of Redmi 5 starting from March 20. The handsets will be also available through Mi.com, MI store app Mi Home stores and other partnered offline outlets.
