Xiaomi Redmi 7 Bags IMDA Certification in Singapore, Launch Imminent?

The IMDA certification agency in Singapore has certified the M1810F6LG variant of the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi 7 entry-level Android smartphone. While the certification does not reveal any other important information apart from the name of the smartphone, it suggests Xiaomi may launch the smartphone in Singapore and a few other markets very soon.

Xiaomi Redmi 7 IMDA

Sadly, there is almost no information available regarding the hardware specifications of the upcoming entry-level Android smartphone from Xiaomi. However, we can expect it to sport a revamped design compared to the current Redmi 6. The current Redmi 6 uses an 18:9 aspect ratio display measuring 5.45-inches diagonally. Xiaomi Redmi 7, on the other hand, may sport a larger display with a taller aspect ratio and perhaps a notch as well. Performance is another area where the Redmi 7 could be a significant upgrade over the Redmi 6. The Redmi 6 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 12nm octa-core processor with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Xiaomi may use a newer MediaTek or even a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset for the Redmi 7. In the camera department, we do not expect the Redmi 7 to be a huge upgrade over the Redmi 6. The Redmi 6 uses a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup on the back with support for Full HD video recording. For selfies, however, the Redmi 7 may come equipped with a more impressive snapper on the front compared to the not so impressive 5MP unit on the Redmi 6.

While the Redmi 6 was announced in June last year, the Redmi 7 is expected to be launched sometime in the first half of 2019. Along with the Redmi 7, Xiaomi could also introduce the successors to Redmi 6 Pro and Redmi 6A from last year. All the three smartphones are expected to ship with Android 9.0 Pie-based MIUI 10 out of the box. Just like the Redmi Note 7, the upcoming Redmi 7 and other entry-level as well as budget Android smartphones from Xiaomi will only carry the Redmi branding at the rear.
