Xiaomi has announced the Redmi 7A entry-level smartphone in India today. It is the successor to the Redmi 6A from last year. The Redmi 7A comes with an 18:9 aspect ratio, decent cameras, a big battery and an enticing price tag.
Xiaomi Redmi 7A Specifications and Features
The Redmi 7A measures 146.2 x 70.4 x 9.6mm and weighs 165 grams. The handset has a polycarbonate chassis with a splash-proof design. It features a 5.45-inch IPS LCD display with thick bezels surrounding it. The bottom bezel of the phone has “Redmi” branding. The display offers HD+ resolution of 720 x 1,440 pixels.
While the Redmi 4A, Redmi 5A and Redmi 6A have featured quad-core processors, the newly announced Redmi 7A has a 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 439 processor with Adreno 505 graphics. The SoC is supported by 2GB of RAM an internal storage of 16GB / 32GB. There is a dedicated microSD card slot available on the device for expanding the storage.
The Chinese edition of the Redmi 7A that was announced in May came with a f/2.2 aperture 13-megapixel rear camera. The Indian edition of the smartphone features a Sony IMX486 12-megapixel sensor. It is the same camera sensor that can be found on some of Xiaomi’s bestselling devices such as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Xiaomi Mi A2. The rear camera features PDAF, HDR, low-light photography and full HD video recording. Placed on the front is a 5-megapixel selfie camera that comes with features like HDR and full HD video recording support.
The Redmi 7A runs MIUI 9 based on Android 9 Pie. The handset is backed by a 4,000mAh battery that carries support for 10W charging. The connectivity features of the Redmi 7A include dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, micro-USB 2.0 and a 3.5mm audio jack. There is no fingerprint scanner on the device. For user authentication, the Redmi 7A is equipped with an AI face unlock feature. Lastly, the phone comes with wireless FM radio.
Xiaomi Redmi 7A Price and Availability
The Redmi 7A has arrived in India in two variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 2GB RAM + 32GB storage. These models are priced at Rs 5,999 and Rs 6,199 respectively. The smartphone will go on sale via Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home stores from July 11. The Redmi 7A will be also made available through offline retailers later on. The handset can be bought in colours like Matte Black, Matte Gold and Matte Blue. Xiaomi has also announced that the device will come with a 2-year warranty.
In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the company, the Redmi 7A will be available with a Rs 200 discount for the month of July. Hence, the 16GB and 32GB Redmi 7A models will be priced at Rs 5,799 and Rs 5,999 respectively for this month.
