Redmi and Black Shark readying 5G Smartphones

Xiaomi is one of the first smartphone manufacturers to have joined the 5G bandwagon. Earlier, Xiaomi released Mi Mix 3 handset with a superlative wireless network. Now the company is reportedly prepping new 5G smartphones. We will be seeing 5G devices from both the Redmi lineup, while Black Shark, where Xiaomi is a majority stakeholder, is also rumoured to launch a 5G handset.

Redmi has confirmed that it is working on a 5G device. Redmi’s chief Lu Weibing, posted on Weibo “5G is coming.” He also added that Xiaomi will be working on 5G devices that are within the RMB 2,000 (Rs 20,000) price bracket. Meanwhile, Black Shark officials posted that the R&D team is readying a Black Shark 5G phone for the future.

Xiaomi is teasing 5G on its future lineups. Weibing also posted, “4G changes lives, 5G changes society! The network will create more applications and more scenarios that users will enjoy.” It is worth noting that both Redmi and Black Shark already have future-ready 5G smartphones in their current portfolios. The Redmi K20 Pro and Black Shark 2 are powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC and will support the Snapdragon X24 4G LTE modem when released.
