Xiaomi launched the flagship Redmi K20 series in China last month. The Redmi K20 and K20 Pro were rumored to arrive as POCO F2 and POCO F2 Pro in India. However, Manu Kumar Jain, Managing Director of Xiaomi India has confirmed that the Redmi K20 series will be launched in India under the same name. The device will debut within six weeks in India, so we can expect a mid-July launch date.

The smartphones are the first flagships under the Redmi brand and will compete against the OnePlus 7 Series. The device will arrive as the successor to POCO F1, which was the cheapest Snapdragon 845-powered smartphone last year. Therefore, we may not see POCO F2 launching any time soon. As a part of the marketing campaign, Xiaomi placed a couple of billboards right beside the OnePlus 7 advertisement boards. The ad says “Starkly superior to the latest One” where the word ‘Stark’ refers to Robert Downey Jr. playing Tony Stark aka Iron Man. The word ‘One’ features a font that’s similar to what’s used in the OnePlus logo.
The Redmi K20 and K20 Pro are expected to be the same handsets as the China variants. Both the devices will feature a 6.39-inch all-view Super AMOLED display, triple rear cameras, and an elevating selfie shooter. The smartphones mainly differ in processors. The standard version is equipped with Snapdragon 730 chipset while the Pro variant houses the flagship Snapdragon 855. The devices can be availed in different configurations up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.
The POCO F1 base variant started retailing at Rs 22,000 last year. We expect the Redmi K20 Series to be priced similarly. Going by the Chinese conversion rates, the standard Redmi K20 will start at Rs 20,200 and the Redmi K20 Pro at Rs 25,200. The exact launch date has not been announced yet, but we will know more about it in the coming weeks.
