Xiaomi Launches Redmi K20 And K20 Pro In India; Price, Specifications

The Xiaomi Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro smartphones that were first unveiled in China in May have gone official in India today. The Redmi K20 is a mid-range phone fueled by the 8nm Snapdragon 730 chipset. On the other hand, the Redmi K20 Pro is currently the cheapest Snapdragon 855 powered flagship phone. The Redmi K20 and K20 Pro smartphones bear similar specs and they sport an identical design.

The Redmi K20 Pro features a glass panel on its back and aluminium frame. Its full HD+ resolution AMOLED display measuring 6.39 inches is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The notch-less display is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. Other display related features of the Redmi K20 Pro include an Always-On Display, DC dimming and eye protection mode. The smartphone boasts a high screen to body ratio of 91.9 percent.

The Snapdragon 855 mobile platform powers the Redmi K20 Pro with up to 8GB of LPDDRX4 RAM. The highest configuration model of the phone has 256GB of storage. The Android 9 Pie that is customised with MIUI 10 runs on the device. It lacks a microSD card slot. There is Game Turbo 2.0 support on the device for improved gaming performance.

The Redmi K20 Pro has a pop-up selfie camera module that includes an f/2.2 aperture 20-megapixel lens. It is equipped with features like AI beauty, AI scene detection, HDR and full HD video shooting. There is a triple camera system on the glass rear of the phone which houses a Sony IMX586 f/1.75 aperture primary lens of 48-megapixels, a telephoto lens of 8-megapixels with f/2.4 aperture and 2x optical zoom support and a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens with f/2.4 aperture. The photography features offered by the triple cameras are dual LED flash, handheld super night mode, HDR, AI scene recognition, portrait mode, 960fps slow-motion video recording and 30fps 4K video shooting.

The Redmi K20 Pro is backed by a 4,000mAh battery that supports 27W fast charging through USB-C. The other features of the smartphone include Hi-Res audio, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dual-frequency GPS and 3.5mm headphone slot. The handset measures 156.7 x 74.3 x 8.8mm and it weighs 191 grams.

Redmi has also done an unthinkable and launched a luxury variant of the Redmi K20 Pro worth Rs 4.8 lakhs. The special edition retains the spec sheet of the regular K20 Pro but flaunts a solid gold back panel. Realme has announced that only 20 units of the special edition will be made in India.

The Redmi K20 features the same full HD+ 6.39-inch AMOLED notch-less display with in-screen fingerprint sensor. It also features 20-megapixel elevating camera for shooting selfies. The SD855 chipset is swapped with a SD730 on the Redmi K20. Its 4,000mAh battery supports 18W fast charging.

The SoC of the Redmi K20 is also assisted by up to 8GB of RAM. It comes in 64GB and 128GB storage models. Also, instead of the 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor, the triple camera setup of Redmi K20 features a Sony IMX582 48-megapixel lens with f/1.75 aperture. Like the Redmi K20 Pro, the non-Pro variant has an 8-megapixel telephoto lens and 13-megapixel ultrawide lens in its triple camera system. It also runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie.

The Redmi K20 Pro has arrived in two variants in India – 6GB RAM + 128GB storage for Rs 27,999 and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage for Rs 30,999. The Redmi K20 comes in three versions – 6GB RAM + 64GB storage for Rs 21,999, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage for Rs 23,999 and 8GB RAM + 128GB storage for Rs 25,999.

The Redmi K20 and K20 Pro phones can be purchased in three colours – Carbon Black, Flame Red and Glacier Blue. Xiaomi’s Alpha Sale which ended yesterday allowed customers to pre-book the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro at a nominal fee. Those who were able to book Redmi K20 or K20 Pro can make the remaining payments today or tomorrow.

The Redmi K20 and K20 Pro will go on sale starting July 22nd at 12 noon on, Mi Home stores and Flipkart. Buyers who booked the smartphone during the Alpha Sale will get Rs 2,000 cashback. The company has also announced the pre-booking of the Redmi K20 seriers at Mi Home Stores starting tomorrow, with Rs 2,000 cashback for ICICI card uses.
