Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max with Snapdragon 720G launched in India, prices start from Rs 12,999

At an online-only launch event held by Xiaomi today, the smartphone maker has announced the Redmi Note 9 series. Like its predecessor, the lineup consists of two variants with a Pro and Pro Max moniker. The Redmi Note 9 Pro follows last year’s popular Redmi Note 8 Pro. Redmi has adopted a different design language for its latest offering compared to the previous smartphones in its Note lineup.  The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max both feature a centre-aligned punch-hole camera cutout which Redmi has dubbed as Dot Display. Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max specifications

The Redmi Note 9 series features a large 6.67-inch display bearing FHD+ resolution. There is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button on both devices. The smartphones flaunt a curved glass back panel housing a square-shaped camera module in the centre. Both the front and back panels are shielded by a triple Gorilla Glass 5 on the top. The Redmi Note 9 series is offered in three colour options – Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue and Glacier White.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max’s quad-camera setup comprises of a 64MP Samsung GW1 sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro shooter and a 2MP depth camera. The camera cutout on the front accommodates a 32MP selfie snapper. The Pro variant retains the same rear camera module apart from the primary sensor which is 48MP while on the front, the device features a 16MP front camera. The smartphones are backed by AI features for enhancing the images along with support for RAW format. 

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 9 series is powered by a Snapdragon 720G chipset coupled with Adreno 618 GPU. The Pro variant gets up to 6GB RAM and the Pro Max packs up to 8GB RAM, with up to 128GB internal storage. There is a dedicated microSD card slot for expanding storage up to 512GB. Both the devices are backed by a massive 5,020mAh battery unit. The Pro Max comes with a bundled 33W fast charger inside the box while the Pro variant ships with an 18W charger. 

Connectivity-wise, the Redmi Note 9 Pro series features a USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, IR Blaster, NavIC, 3.5mm headphone jack and Dual VoLTE. The smartphones also come with VoWiFi support out of the box.

Redmi Note 9 Pro price in India and availability

The Pro model’s base variant i.e. 4GB + 64GB costs Rs 12,999 while the 6GB + 128GB carries a price tag of Rs 15,999. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max’s base variant i.e. 6GB + 64GB is priced at Rs 14,999. The 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB configurations will retail at Rs 16,999 and Rs 18,999, respectively. 

The Redmi Note 9 Pro will go on sale from March 17th while the Pro Max will be available from March 25th. Both smartphones will be available for purchase from Amazon, mi.com, Mi Home and Mi Studio

The Redmi Note 9 series will compete against Realme’s recently launched Realme 6 (review) and Realme 6 Pro (review).
