Earlier in March this year, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max (review) smartphones. Both devices shipped with Android 10 based on MIUI 11 out of the box. Notably, the Pro variant received MIUI 12 that brought a refreshed interface but Android OS remained the same.
Now, Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 11 software update to Redmi Note 9 Pro users in India. To recall, Google had released the latest software version in June. The update for Redmi Note 9 Pro is rolled out for select users and may reach everyone in the coming days.

Some Redmi Note 9 Pro users took to Twitter to share details on the Android 11 OS update. It carries version number MIUI V12.0.1.0.RJWINXM. The new OS update weighs 2.3GB in size. The screenshot also reveals that the Android 11 update is a stable version based on MIUI. Users can manually check for the latest OS update by navigating to Settings > About phone.
Unfortunately, the Android 11 update changelog doesn’t reveal any changes and new features that will debut on the smartphone. However, one can expect changes like a dedicated section at the top of notification shade called ‘Conversations’ that will merge all messages from different apps. The latest OS version also introduces Facebook-like floating chat bubbles that lets users respond to messages while using other apps. Music playback control also gets shifted to Quick Settings from the notification area. Lastly, the Android 11 version comes with an updated power menu function that lets users access smart home devices by long-pressing the power button.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro sports a 6.67-inch FHD+ display with a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout housing a 16MP selfie camera. It features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and the device is available in Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue and Glacier White colours. The Redmi Note 9 Pro’s quad-camera setup comprises of 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 5MP macro unit and a 2MP depth shooter.
Internally, the Redmi Note 9 Pro houses a Snapdragon 720G chipset paired with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage expandable via dedicated microSD card slot. The smartphone is backed by a 5,020mAh battery unit with 18W charging. The Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, IR Blaster, NavIC, Dual VoLTE and VoWiFi support.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro’s base variant i.e. 4GB + 64GB costs Rs 13,999 while the 4GB + 128GB retails at Rs 15,999. The 6GB + 128GB configuration carries a price tag of Rs 16,999.
