Xiaomi Redmi S2 Featuring Android One to Launch in India Soon

Xiaomi, the Chinese brand known to disrupt the budget smartphone market in India may be looking to launch another smartphone dubbed as the Redmi S2 soon. The company segregates its smartphone portfolio into two sub-brands: Redmi and Mi. The Redmi devices are aimed at the masses and are priced more aggressively. The Mi smartphones, on the other hand, are priced higher and offer better specifications.

In an interview earlier this month, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi hinted at the possible launch of another Redmi Device very soon. Following this, leaks and rumours confirmed that the device coming was definitely the Redmi S2. In addition to that, leaked software rumours suggest that the smartphone will be heading to India as well.

Speaking of software, the Redmi S2 will be an Android One device. Android One is a project by Google that allows budget and even low-end smartphones run a seamless operating system despite not having flagship internals. Xiaomi was one of the first brands to leverage on this project with the Xiaomi Mi A1. Considering the Mi A1 is heading towards its first anniversary, its successor is also due. It is likely that the Mi A2 will be launched alongside the Redmi S2.

On the performance front, the Redmi S2, as per leaks and rumours will rock the Snapdragon 625 SoC ticking at 2.2GHz. It will also have the Adreno 506 GPU for aiding in gaming visuals and overall interface graphics performance. To give you a run-down, the Redmi S2 is likely to have the same processor as the Redmi Note 4 from last year and the Note 5 from this year. The processor is quite a champ at handling daily tasks and offers good efficiency as well.

As far as its RAM and storage are concerned, the upcoming Redmi S2 will ship in three variants – 2GB RAM/16GB storage, 4GB RAM/32GB storage and 6GB RAM/64GB storage.

Considering that the phone will be running a clean and stock version of Android Oreo out of the box, these specifications seem pretty impressive. To top that off, as per some more leaks, the phone will draw its power from a 3,000mAh battery located underneath its hood. Combining an efficient processor, an optimised software and a fairly decent sized battery, the company seems to have planned an all-round device.

On the camera front, the smartphone is expected to come with a dual-rear camera setup comprising of a 12MP + 8MP sensor accompanied with LED flash. On the front is where a 16MP selfie sensor will be located.
