Xiaomi India recently hinted at the arrival of a new Y-series smartphone. Today, the company has sent out press invites confirming that the device will be launched on April 24th. In addition, a landing page for the smartphone has gone live on Amazon India to confirm that it will be made official on April 24th at 12pm. Although the landing page does not reveal the name of the device, the presence of the 32-megapixel selfie camera suggests that it will be debuting as the Redmi Y3 selfie-centric smartphone. Also, it has also showcased some of the key features of the smartphone.
The Redmi Y3 will be arriving with a waterdrop-style notched display. It will be housing a 32-megapixel selfie camera. Dubbed as 32MP “Super Selfie” phone, the Redmi Y3 will be arriving as the successor of the Redmi Y2 smartphone from last year that came with LED flash enabled 16-megapixel front camera. The 32-megapixel selfie camera could be the Samsung GD1 sensor that is also available on other devices such as Huawei P30 Pro and Vivo V15 Pro. The handset will be sporting a gradient finish on its rear. The back panel of the phone seems to feature a vertical dual camera setup, an LED flash and a fingerprint scanner.
A Snapdragon processor will be fueling the Redmi Y3 smartphone. The Snapdragon 625 SoC is present under the hood of the device. The Redmi Y3 could be powered by the Snapdragon 636 or Snapdragon 632 chipset. Its battery will be able to last for up to 2 days by charging it once. The inclusion of durable glass for the display suggests that the handset will be equipped with Gorilla Glass protection. Also, it could be arriving with a splash-resistant P2i coating. The Wi-Fi certification of the phone had revealed that it will be arriving with Android 9 Pie OS.
The Redmi Y2 that was introduced with a starting price of Rs 9,999 is now selling for Rs. 8,999. Rumours have it that the starting variant of the Redmi Y3 could be priced around Rs 10,000. The smartphone will be available for purchase through Amazon India and Mi Store. The same phone is expected to go official in China soon with the Redmi S3 moniker.
