Xiaomi files RedmiBook trademark in India, launch seems imminent

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is expected to foray into the laptop segment in India. The company’s laptops are currently limited to its home market. Now, the brand has filed a trademark for ‘RedmiBook’ with the Intellectual Property India website, hinting that a launch is imminent. Notably, manufacturers file trademarks to safeguard their upcoming product names. Back in 2018, Xiaomi’s India Head Manu Kumar Jain had said that a Xiaomi gaming laptop could make its way to India. The RedmiBook is expected to arrive in the Indian market in early 2020.

It’s worth noting that Xiaomi offers laptops under the Mi NoteBook series and RedmiBook. The later is a part of Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi and is more affordable of the two laptop lineups. To recall, the RedmiBook 14 was the brand’s first offering launched back in May last year, with new variants being announced in the following months. The RedmiBook 13 is the latest model that was launched in December alongside the Redmi K30 series in China. It’s possible that Xiaomi may launch the same notebook along with the smartphone in India in the coming months.
