Sony Xperia 1 was the first phone to feature a display with 4K resolution. Following this, the Xperia 1 was announced in February this year and comes with an OLED display that offers an aspect ratio of 21:9. Now, a new device with 5K resolution has been spotted in a UA profile. The device is dubbed Xperia 1R.
Sony is likely to showcase the Xperia 1R at the IFA event in September this year. It is also worth noting that Xperia 1R will be the world’s first smartphone to feature a 5K display. The new device bears the J8220 model number and is expected to support a screen resolution of 5,040 x 2,160 pixels. Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia 1 comes fitted with a 6.5-inch display that offers a resolution of 1,664 x 3,840 pixels. The display offers a staggering pixel density of 889ppi.
This month we have come across UA profiles of two Sony phones bearing the model numbers J8210 and J8010. That apart, the devices are codenamed as SPHINX and HORUS, which suggests that they will come equipped with 5G modems. The Sony Xperia 1 has the model number J8110, and it is only logical that the J8220 might be the Xperia 1R or an updated version of the Xperia 1. It is quite likely that the new Xperia will support 5G.
Sony is prepping to launch new devices including Xperia 2, Xperia 20 and Xperia 20 Pro at IFA 2019. As per leaked info, the Xperia 20 is likely to feature 6-inch FHD+ display and support an aspect ratio of 21:1. The device is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 710 SoC and will be available in 64GB and 128GB variants. FCC has already certified the Xperia 20.
